I found this related story in the Globe as well:
Chevrolet
Vehicle was made in Michigan
By Globe Staff, 10/25/2002
The vehicle used by the sniper was a 350 cubic-inch fully automatic transmission automabile made by Chevrolet, an automobile manufacturer in Detroit, Michigan.
The vehicle is often referred to as a land yacht. The federal warrant issued against John Allen Muhammad identified the specific model as an Caprice Classic.
The gas-operated vehicle is about 15 feet long, and it weighs 1.74 tons without the standard 4 round tires that Chevrolet supplies with each model.
The particular vehicle traced through a Tacoma, Wash., auto dealer to Muhammad was outfitted with shorter-than-normal 4 barrel carbureator, which is sometimes requested in law-enforcement orders. The ''shorty'' was manufactured to accommodate a larger air filter, which investigators said the sniper used.
Chevrolet, which has been in business for 96 years and has 75,000 employees, makes about 5,000,000 vehicles a year.

Had one of them "movin" 350's. It was awesome but depressing.
It took me a while to realize that guys approached me because of my car...
Well, how the heck was I to know...Geez, I thought I looked pretty good. Obviously, the car was "hotter"
Lesson learned: "volunteer" mechanics are readily available if you have a 350!!
