The firearm is often referred to as a civilian version of the military's M-16. The federal warrant issued against John Allen Muhammad identified the specific model as an A-35, XM15 E2S.

The gas-operated weapon is about 343/4 inches long, and it weighs 7.74 pounds without the standard 10-round magazine that Bushmaster supplies with each model.

They just want to make some noise over black guns.

Bushmaster is a nice choice for AR-15 style weaponry in my opinion...for the money. Their bullpup ain't half bad either.

Remember when they made the .223 ArmsPistol in the 70s and early 80s with the banana mag that swiveled. I had one as a boat gun. Wish I'd kept it.

Good evening, I'm Dan Rather. in yet another stinging setback for so-called President Bush, in a revelation that could hurt Republicans in the coming elections, it was revealed today that the weapon used by the DC sniper was a .223-caliber semiautomatic rifle made by Bushmaster Firearms, a gun manufacturer in Windham, Maine, the same state that is home to the President's father, former President Geaorg Bush. CBS has been unable to confirm - but we can't rule it out - that those invloved in manufacturing and selling this lethal weapon may have indeed voted for the President.

Sorry, Dan...NBC beat you to the punch last night. Brokaw ran with a story last night stating that the CEO of Bushmaster had been a major contributor to the current President's 2000 campaign. That CEO had stepped down from Bushmaster to keep anyone from linking George Bush with the 'gun culture'. Didn't work...they will do whatever it takes to link the president to those EEEEEEEEvil guns. Tom, you're just an anti-American b*stard.

Oh, the Times has already managed to smear Bush by screaming that Bushmaster Arms was a campaign contributor to the Republican party. Nice folks.

Who did Williams vote for? Assuming he voted. I'll bet it never was a Republican.

Or just an attempt to focus on gun control?

You got it! Wait until they show how the Fed Firearms backround check failed to pick up the restraining order on John boy.

It is not going to be pretty. I sense another congressional knee jerk.

I just hope that they can close the "Auto Show Loophole" before another Caprice Classic ends up in the hands of another unstable individual or, heaven forbid, a child.

Were these BrokeJaw's words or the CEO's specific reason for stepping down? Either way I'll be p!ssed.

They also have a good price on once fired, crimped pocket primer .223 brass casings for the very low price of $19.95 per thousand.

What does the location of the gun manufacturer have to do with the sniper case? Is this really news? Or just an attempt to focus on gun control?

The story ran on page A26 of the Boston Globe.
Why are you giving it more play than it deserves in Breaking News?

OK... So the gun had a 16" barrel. How do they go on to conclude that it was a Muslim? Are they certain that the gun acted alone? Are there other guns out there who were part of the conspiracy?

I'd prefer a longer barrel for a sniper rifle.

That was Brokaw's statement...there wasn't a taped statement from the CEO, although that was the reason Brokaw gave for the CEO's departure.

It's done by a coward to prop up the tyrants. They're not after gun control. They want no guns at all in the hands of anyone, but the authorities. In fact that want no power at all in any other hands, just bend over, zig-zag and vote democratic. They'll take care of everything.
