The credit card thing was because the perps could not figure out any other way to safely get the money. It was dumb, not sophisticated at all.
What hung them was the priest. The kid confessed the alabama killing apparently. That led to the INS file and address. Boom!
The cops were just trying to keep them occupied and hope they made a mistake before they killed someone else. They would have seriously gave them the ten million, then busted them when they moved it. I'm glad it did not get that far.
That was a tough case for them and they finally got a break. Damn good police work!(commin from me, that is a hell of a compliment)
