How to Cure the Media from Referring to Our Sniper Friend as "Williams"

Posted on 10/24/2002 6:09:16 PM PDT by applemac_g4

A copy of the letter I sent to ABC radio news today:

Gentlemen,

I am most disappointed in the racist techniques that your newscasters are using in covering the sniper story.

The man who has been arrested is named "Muhammed", of his own free choice, and yet your news casters seem to be ashamed of his choice of religion, continually referring to him as John Williams.

Are we to go back to calling Muhammed Ali "Cassius Clay" and Kareem Abdul Jabbar "Lew Alcinder" as well?

Please be less obviously bigoted in your reporting and give the man the dignity of at least referring to him by his chosen name - Muhammed.

I agree. "Murderer", "killer", or even "bushwhacker" (having participated in ambushes, that word should be protected too) would be OK, but not "sniper."

Try this if you want results:

More than once I’ve sent emails to companies voicing my concern/discontent with matters of which they were responsible telling them that if action wasn’t taken they’d be losing my business for good. I knew that such actions would not matter to such large corporations, and their response(s) conveyed just that. Both times I received a courteous yet blunt reply that basically said, “If you are an unsatisfied customer we’ll give you a refund”. So both times I sent a hard copy of their replies to the local paper as part of a letter to the editor. And both times they were printed. The responses to those letters were amazing! Nearly every respondent said they too, would send a letter to the companies in question.

On one of these incidences I received a subsequent email giving me a phone number and asking that I call the head of their public relations department for she would like to talk to me. When I did, she tried to appease me by offering me free merchandise. Of course I refused. I wanted one thing; I wanted her to acknowledge that they were wrong. That wasn't going to happen. But after a lengthy discussion she asked me to please call her personally if I had any concerns in the future. All this tells me they didn’t like the bad publicity generated by one simple email.

This may not work with a network, especially a network like ABC. But, you never know.

Man, what's going to happen if it turns out these two are gay lovers?

Funny you mention this, I was thinking the same thing. Wouldn't that be something, kill three sacred birds with one stone: black, Muslim, and gay.

Disclaimer: No disrespect to anyone intended, this freeper loves all God's children, just an observation on the times.

"pervasive use of the word "gentlemen"

THAT is something that causes me to scream at the TV. Calling a low-life,scum suckin, pervert, rapist, mugger, murderer or what-in-the-hell ever a gentleman is a total bastardization of the Queens English.

Isn't English a lower-level pre-requisite for journalism majors anymore?

I heard it's the name he has on his drivers license, if that means anything.

I'm wondering if he took the name Muhammed after making a pilgrimage to Mecca. If that's the case, where else did he travel in the Middle East?

I was watching FOX News last night when that blonde haired chick in the news center released the names of the suspects.(can't remember her name). When "Muhammad" was uttered, ol Greta van Sustern looked like she just swallowed a meal of rotten lemons and rancid ratburgers.
I watched until a little bit after midnight. Greta did not say "John Muhammad" one single time!

And of course, the media was quite happy to refer to the "leader" of the "Branch Davidians" in Waco by his chosen name of David Koresh, even though his real name was Vernon Howell and that's what local law enforcement preferred to call him.

But of course, they liked portraying "Koresh" [falsely of course] as just a natural progression of Christianity, and it's politically correct to bash anything with remote Judeo-Christian roots. It's not politically correct to permit anyone to connect the sniper sickos in the same way with with Islamism.

bad news... Heard on the radio that the US Marine Corps was cancelling a sniper competition at Quantico, Vg. I was outraged at the PC decision. Possibly caused by some of Clinton's holdover appointees squeezing the command. Or... infesting the command. Bastards.

You ask why?

Because there is an election coming up and, "It's the economy, Stupid."

Don't believe everything you hear on the radio or read in the papers. The Corps has a very old tradition and 8 years of the draft dodger won't change those traditions. We still keep the men and women separate in boot camp and there will always be marksmanship competition. Signed, Not Politically Correct! Semper Fi

Did anyone hear what Rush said about the one guy? I think it's Mohammed? He said that this guy was a Security Guard for Louis Farrahkan during the Million Man March. Rush suggested they look into this.....

This may be related:

From http://www.publicenemy.com/soldiers/s1w.php:

Pop Diesel S1W a.k.a. John Muhammad
Chief of Security, he is responsible for setting up security for shows; born in New York where he too began his training in the Nation of Islam under the leadership of the honorable Louis Farrakhan; like James Bomb S1W he attributes his ability to attain and maintain discipline to this training; has trained for 21 years in the Black Belt Union Karate School and enjoys working with people on self-improvement, which, he feels, is the basis for community development;
