All my family roots go way back in TX - some of them since her independence. There was not much love for TX in NM, even among fellow gringos, and I always found myself defending TX (and the Confederacy) while I was growing up. I had some "Hispo" friends (actually, all my first childhood friends were chicano kids), but I also clashed with them a lot. Nearly started a riot one time in Junior High when I used an ethnic slur with a chicano kid I was mad at. But me and most of the guys in the mob that gathered to beat me for the slur got along well by the time we graduated, and had matured (a little).

Just decided to bore you with a mini autobiography there. =0)

chicano kid

My family is pre-statehood as well, and my dad HATED, HATED the word "chicano." I thought about earlier, when you mentioned my demographic group, I think first and foremost it's "cute ,brilliant, mean, Texan women under 35."
