Quick question: was his email reply to the entire company (all recipients) or just the originating address? Seems to me that if his reply was privately sent, termination is out of line. If he broadcast his reply to the entire company, he probably made a poor choice. Not defending KODAK here, but that's just asking for it.

No, I was a worker bee intern for this past summer. I saw a fair amount of stupidity there.

Also, living in Rochester, I know a LOT of people that work at Kodak. So I hear things.

Now wait a minute here, this is quite a double standard. If we believe that private businesses have a right to decide who they want to work for them, then we can't criticize Kodak for what it did. If I want the right to fire someone because he's gay, Kodak gets to have the right to fire someone because he's anti-gay. We can't argue against special rights for gays but then turn around and argue for special rights for people who are anti-gay. I say every employer should be able to decide who they want to hire or fire for whatever reason, and the it's none of the government's business one way or the other. Let the market decide.

I agree with your basic statement, but I must turn part of it on its head. Kodak does not have the right to fire somebody because they're gay, so I would say that they do not have the right to fire somebody who is anti-gay. (And the right to fire is not absolute: for example, in CA you can't fire people for comparing salaries, a free-speech exception I agree with.)
