Moose: Can't Communicate Electronically with you
Fox News ^ | 10/22/00 | Fox News

Posted on 10/22/2002 4:18:38 PM PDT by Koblenz

Mr. Moose just held another news conference. Said the Police Department couldn't communicate electronically with the sniper in the manner he requested. What a mess.

The police said call back to get an 800 number or a PO Box.

EXACTLY - as well as the air raid sirens use the Emergency Broadcast System to alert drivers to all STOP in the streets and OBSERVE and REPORT.

This would be the alternative to STOP, DROP and ROLL as we in when we are on fire

Publicly, he may have "retired". I know you have no reason to trust me, but I live in the area and I remember his stint as COP. He was pushed into that retirement.

"found it interesting that he mentioned the nation."

Same here, and at the time I was only half listening and I thought that seemed a bit of a stretch unless they knew that this was something more than just a homegrown whack job run amok.

They will be witnesses in a murder trial if we ever catch him. They probably need to remain anonymous.

Hey, guys, I normally *hate* to do this but on the theory that most Freepers would want to know, it does appear that CSPAN may carry Saturday's Support-our-Troops counter-rally (a countervoice to the anti-war crowd). So, with apologies for going offtopic, here's the link to that thread. We now return you to our normal programming.

As a reward for listening, here's my completely on-topic schtick on what they should put on Chief Moose's phone -- they're asking the sniper to call Moose -- for an answering machine message when Chief Moose is out. It's obvious that the sniper is responding to communicating with Moose, so that leaves Moose on stage for this drama. So what's he gonna do when he can't be at the phone? (I know, I know, someone else will man that phone 24/7, but just play along:)

Hello, you've reached Chief Moose's phone. If you're the sniper. Press 1. Everyone else, Press 2. **1** Welcome, Sniper. Please listen carefully as our menu options have changed. If you would like to leave a message taunting me, Press 1. If you would like to leave a higher audio quality replay of a previous scarey message, Press 2. If you would like to leave a new threatening message in the voice of Satan, Press 3. If you would like to speak to Chief Moose, Press 4 or hold the line and an FBI Special Agent will speak to you as soon as we finish tracing your call.

I am sorry I can't guarantee the nut senario, but lets look at the terrorism anyway. I really do think that the US needs to go all out on our "war against terrorism" We haven't done a whole lot in the last year except take out Afganistan. I haven't heard of other AQ camps attacked in other countries, I haven't seen intense sorties against the rescent bombing of a French tanker. We are still pleasantly negotiating with Hussain who has tortured post DS prisoners and refused to let UN inspectors do their jobs several times, against past agreements. he is laughing at us and our way of life with his one person elections and Unanimous victory. Lets just bring out the facts against him and label him a terrorist and terrorist sympithizer. Take the guy out before he can bring mass distruction weapons to bear on UN countires like Turkey, Isreal, India, or even our own land!

Lots & lots of places don't have tornado warning sirens. Do they have them in Virginia & Maryland? What about small towns like Ashland? Memphis has them, but not really anywhere else in Tennessee.

I still think some kind of immediate radio communication on all channels would work.

I think the cops are going to have to release all notes.............................................. This worked on the Uni-bomber case, and many more.

There is a big differance. The Uni-bomber was sending his manifesto to the newspapers and demanding that they be published.

If I recall it took quite a long time before the newspaper did this and when they finally did it was his brother who recognized the writings and turned him in.

I am not sure who the many more are that you refer to. The Zodiac killer in the San Francisco, Bay area in California 1969/70 wrote lots of letters and quite a few were published. To this day they have not learned who the Zodiac killer is/was.

I have to agree with you. Using Moose as the face and voice may give the shooter the sense that he is superior to the cops- and hopefully mess up. Moose is just the mouthpiece- and a perfect foil for the killer's ego.
With shootings documented in 2 states +DC- the feds HAVE to be running the show. No county sheriff is up to this challenge- but if they put another face out there- the shooter has an elevated status.
I just hope they catch him/them before more people die. The very fact that there is some kind of dialogue ongoing seems to me a good thing.

Yup, dead on.

I should add that although I haven't seen any indication that Moose is terribly clever from an Ivy League perspective, that's not necessarily what one wants in a cop anyway. He's done some stuff indicating he's not very emotionally together (like crying in public) that have inadvertently helped to increase his value as a foil. I know I haven't seen enough to finally judge him (although from what I've seen, I frankly am NOT impressed), but I'm not obsessed with his performance because he's not a big player here.

The FBI -- I get killed for saying this here! -- is very very very good. If anyone can get this guy, the FBI can.

"Does anyone know why they have not released the victims name from the Ponderosa?"

Did you receive an answer yet? I'd like to know, too. Maybe the family didn't want to release it, since he's still alive.

His wife requested it. She specifically asked that the press not have access to her or the rest of the family.

Thank you very much. I thought it was something along those lines.

I'm not a cop- nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night- but it sure seems to me this guy is less threatening to a killer than a brilliant, well spoken, high placed LEO.
And I also agree with you about the FBI- They have been doing this kind of negotiation for 75 years- no one can do it better.
Now they can flame us both.
