I think he didn't announce the threat against children earlier because it might cause the shooter to feel he had to "make good" on his threat. For that reason, I was really angry at the school officials who leaked that info to protect their sorry backsides from criticism about closing the schools. Oh well, see my post #300, also post #317 on this thread.

The VA school officials who closed the schools did so because the text of at least the threat had been leaked by VA LE to local parents, who then demanded that the schools be shut. Once those parents knew, it was just a matter of time before everybody else found out.
