The authorities are kow-towing to the shooter(s). If authorities suspect, more than not, that this is a terrorist(s) at work, they need to say so. They need to tell everyone that they need to help fight the War on Terror by living their lives without fear. That way, if someone else dies, at least they, and their families, have the satisfaction of knowing they died defying terrorists, rather than dying without purpose. It is time to be defiant, rather than craven.

Interesting post. What this means, then, is that they don't suspect foreign terrorism at work here -- the Montgomery County Police, for example, would not be capable of dealing with an al-Qaeda cell on their own.

Why did they only close the schools in the Richmond area if these shootings have been taking place all over the D.C. area?

Because VA law enforcement leaked the threat to local families. At first, only people in VA were aware of the danger, and demanded that the schools be closed.

For a little perspective John Lott just said in a normal month there are 34 homicides in this area.Pehaps someone can post the transcript of Lott with B. Hume.

I agree -- American serial killers target kids when there is some sort of insane sexual motive, or when they're kids themselves (e.g., Columbine)...but I don't think there's history of homegrown serial killers deliberately targeting kids otherwise.

(I can't believe I'm parsing the relative evil of various serial killer types. Argh.)

If the killer/killers are home grown, they had a lot of teachers who just might recognize the hand writting.

An old cop trick when they got a hand written note from some whacko was to get that note to the teachers and retired teachers in the area. Often it worked. The teachers were not identified to protect them. Once the bad guys were identified, the rest of the cop work was easy.

This is utter PC Bravo Sierra that nothing has been released. All we really know is that x amount of people have been killed and x wounded.

Interesting point about the teachers. And seems reasonable to hold a small part back for later weedout of false confessors.

Release the handwritings of the letter and tarot cards, release the audio, and post the picture of the suspected French sniper.

Clearly that is what happened. I was speculating about why, once the Richmond area schools closed, the announcement was not made to the general public sooner. I mean, there must be plenty of folks living near Richmond who alerted their relatives in Montgomery County about the warning.

If they see us crying, and whimpering and panicking and shutting down a whole National Capital region because parents pull their kids from school in MD, VA and DC and they need to take off work to do so, why they will lick their filthy Arabic chops.

I agree completely. I thought the same thing about all the pissing & moaning about the 911 anniversary where the weak sisters wanted to cry about what happened to us instead of rally around what we're going to do to them. For all I know the limp-wristed response to the anniversary gave aid and comfort to this lone rifleman who has the entire capital pinned down. And people are still whining about posse comitatus. People need to get used to the idea of the military operating in the homeland because we HAVE BEEN infiltrated and we ARE at war whether we like it or not. It is time for ethnic cleansing by deportation and by internment. And it is time for helicopter patrols over the borders with a clear message that invading our sovereignty means death.

Good God what contempt our enemy must have for us after seeing this... this... institutionalized cowardice. We need a war and we need a draft NOW if for no other reason than to get some of the pansies killed off and put some spine back into this country.

The whole world want some of us? Fine. Lets get it on. The bombing starts in five minutes.

I know of three guys who went to jail and two are still in jail because real cops had the sense to take hand written evidence to schools and ask the teachers if they knew whose hand writing and style. In all 3 cases the guys had been out of school for years, and the teachers knew immediately whose writing it was.
