Quick FReep Report:

There were about 30 anti-Davis protesters, including quite a large group of Latinos from San Francisco who did a great, enthusiastic job with their "Davis is a Pimp!" signs and chants. I believe some of them were Democrats fed up with the way the state (and especially education) has gone downhill under the corruption of Davis and the ultra-liberalism of the Dem legislature. Every wave of cars coming by the Hyatt had several honking in approval, thumbs up, etc.

We were, however, outnumbered by 40-50 people from IUPAT (International Union of Painters and Allied Trades). They were clearly there under a union-sponsored action: they had to sign in, presumably to get paid or get other compensation/bennies.

While there was a lot of jockeying to outdo and cover up each other's signs and chants, it stayed civilized. A few of the IUPAT people tried to stir up some action, but our group's comebacks to these attempts to goad us generally shut them up.

Grayout Davis himself of course avoided the ruckus and apparently snuck into the Hyatt complex via a back entrance. But we got a lot of people's attention, and it was good to see a group of people who would be expected to genetically vote for Davis, be so solidly in the Bill Simon camp.
