Uh. The way I read it, it's 30 days, not 135 days. CBS would like to add them all up to string them out...but the first deadline to report all weapons would likely be broken...Saddam won't go through all the motions and then war starts...geez.

If we actually get through the 135 days, then Iraq will have been fully cooperating, and there would be no need for war. That will obviously not happen, so the administration is making it very clear "re: Door No. 1" that the bombs drop at the first welch.

For the first time in long, long years there is an administration in the White House which doesn't see sucking up to the media as it's primary duty.

On the other hand, it's serious about keeping sensitive military info restricted... as it has to be.

Thus the media "loose lips" found themselves on dry and became very gullible. They swallow any gossip, idiotic urban legend, and outright lies of "unnamed officials" hook, line and sinker.

When has ABCNNBCBS ever told Americans the truth about anything without massaging the news or fabricating it to push their Rat agendas!

Rummy is playing ABCNNBCBS like a concert master with disinformation and planned leaks.

The draft resolution would give Saddam Hussein 30 days to declare all weapons of mass destruction, then 45 days before weapons inspectors return, then 60 days more before they report back to the United Nations - a total of 135 days, or at least March, CBS said.

As I observed here at the time of Bush's speech to the UN, punting this thing to the Security Council was a way of killing more time -- at least several months -- while still looking like the heavy. Bush needs to look like the heavy, but he also badly needs to string this out. Anthrax vaccine won't be on tap until late 2003 at the earliest, so figure a late start and a slow-burn war-for-territory timed to avoid a showdown in Baghdad until a few months before the next presidential election.

Rush was saying a week or so ago to expect this. It is necessary to "muddy the waters" to regain some element of suprise with the attack.

Thanks for injecting a good dose of reality for the armchair generals and admirals who wanted our troops to invade this past summer:

When I landed there in '90 it was early Sept and temperatures went up to 135 degrees. You can hardly walk in that kind of heat much less fight.

Thanks for being there for us and for this dose of reality re the temps over there.

"If we go - by the book, Captain, then minutes could seem like hours..."

Expect showtime to be well before 135 days...

Little arab saying: When Allah created Hell, he wasn't satisfied...so he created Mesipotamia.

Point is: if you think that 40+C weather/heat is not going to have a major effect on US military equipment and people, you are fooling yourselves. Just think of the level of water consumption while fighting street to street. For more reference, read up on the British River Campeigns there in 1914-17.
