"Keystone cops", while insulting is hardly derisive and does not demonstrate a proclivity for bashing police-- which you assume I have. It may have been overly critical... but I was not comfortable with what I read in the article on its face... if there is behind the scenes co-operation the public doesn't know about... my comments would be premature... but it certainly does not rise to the level of bashing police as you allege. Moreover, if the communication that was reported was simply a strategy and not a mistake, as this article portrayed it, than perhaps Moose has us all fooled.

That is one of the Nation's best police forces. They dont deal with the Paralysis of PCism.

I went toe to toe with one of them about ten years ago...I told him to "take off that badge"...and he did.

Yes. A woman who did not know that schools were closed today took her kids to schools and the only vehicle in that parking lot was that van they were in. She called 911.

Then, somehow, they showed up at THE phone booth.

My posts, from the beginning, show my preference for Federal lead in this case. The Feds have more resources and more sophisticated resources at their disposal.

Aparently the real problem was that the FBIies didn't open the message until some "deadline" contained within it had already passed. This from ABC news:

The person demanded money in the note and threatened new attacks if the money was not paid after a certain deadline, sources said. However, by the time FBI evidence technicians opened the note, the deadline had passed, prompting Moose reach out to the suspected sniper through the media.

Using that phone number, and cross-checking it against calls that had already come into a tip line, authorities realized that other calls to the tip line had come in from telephones in the same geographic area as the phone number in the note.

As a result, police and other authorities were staking out a number of pay phones in the area involved this morning, waiting for someone to make a call. Sources told ABCNEWS that someone claiming to be the sniper called authorities from Richmond, Va.

The call, which lasted less than a minute, was traced to the Richmond gas station where the two illegal aliens were detained. While the men were questioned, SWAT teams searched nearby homes where they believed they had been staying.

The varsity team, as you call them, FBI,DEA etc, are there and in numbers. They are simply not taking the podium. This is a state based criminal matter. It does not involve federal facilities or areas of federal involvement. It does cross state lines, which is why they are involved. This does not mean that they need to lead the investigation. If they did, they would likely not improve a damn thing. They probably would make it worse and less effective.

The FBI is not good at work that only the locals can do, but they are there and working the things they can do. They are providing federal resources, labs and evidence units. It will be a uniformed cop who nabs this guy in the end. Let the uniforms take the podium and the spotlight.

Whats the difference who says little or nothing to the reporters.

I might add that if this sniper wants to stay out of custody, he'll steer clear of taking shots at people in Chesterfield or Henrico Counties.

Their police forces dont play. 0 tolerance for disorder.

According to what was reported on NBC Nightly News, the caller used a voice-distortion device and was very difficult to understand.

I seriously doubt that the Sheriff of Montgemery County (That would be the Moose) is "In charge" of this investigation. Think about You have the FBI, CIA, Secret service, and the freaking pentagon. Chief is just a spokesperson.

What would you prefer a seperate breifing from 5 different Chiefs and one for the FBI, CIA, Secret Service and the Pentagon? Chief Moose may have some say involving the cases in his County, for everything else he is just the group mouthpeice. He may not be perfect, but one voice is better than a dozen.

MOOSE< O.K., I told people their kids would be safe... and well, you got one... I told people to continue to fuel their cars because we'll be watchin'... and well, we watched you shoot a guy at the pump... I'm making no assumptions. Your remarks speak for themselves.

Calling the police "Keystone Cops" isn't only insulting it's ridicule and thereby, contemptuous. Also, there has been no "charade" by the police, that I've been able to determine. You shouldn't be so willing to jump the gun, before all the facts are out and have some respect for the police. They've got a difficult job.
