They are saying it is unusual that a press conference would be called with such short notice... Yes, odd indeed. Just like this latest "call us" stuff. We'll see.

MSNBC(ewwwwwwwwww) has the best camera shots imo. Which is interesting in its own right: I think the media's response time to these things is at least as good as the cops'.

You are probably right...chances are this isn't the sniper, but how I wish that this situation would end. The stress level in this area has been unbelievable.

Perhaps he knows he can't be famous in name without being caught?

Heck, even calling from a cell-phone wouldn't be safe. Not only can the phone companies narrow down where an incoming call is coming from to a fairly small area, the FCC has direction finding trucks that can tell you the location of a specific transmitter to within a few degrees of angle, allowing quick triangulation when used in pairs (or more) at a time.

He may have underestimated how fast phone calls can be traced.Mid-70s rotary system: 30+seconds
21st century digital system: instantaneous

Fox just said police a "CONFIDENT" they got the sniper.
To: RobFromGa
If the sniper expresses remorse, should they give him a lighter sentence? < /sarcasm>

I'm going on record now before the truth is out...this guy left a note and ARRANGED to turn himself in. Nothing else makes sense. Unless, and I'll state this too, there was an accomplice who turned himself in.

I would be hesitant to think that. It seems too easy.
