I would hope our soldiers are more concerned with how to win rather than appearances.

Hiding under the bed is not really a winning strategy for a nation.

Big time.

And bombers, and poisoners, and some Islamikazi who is going to effect a half of a 9-11 by driving a stolen gasoline tanker into the lobby of a steel skeleton corporate HQ building at 80MPH.

We're going to see that and more, anthrax by the kilo, not the gram.

Now they think they are going to make the kids safe by closing down a few schools when in fact they may be challenging the shooter to "prove" that he can take out children whenever he wants even if they close the schools.

I have no idea why anyone would send their children to public schools in the first place. That is the least safe environment for children. Drugs, alcohol and sex is peddled there routinely and that doesn't take the horrendous education that is doled out.

The schools can't protect children. Why is it so important that they stay open?

Shouldn't we cancel school everywhere because kids are hit by cars on the way, or die in playground accidents?

I think that the public schools are doing the citizens of VA a favor by closing their doors. The children of VA are better off playing in the street than going to public shcool. Be that as it may, do you really think "business as usual" is so important as to risk the lives of children? We're not talking about accidents. We're talking about a maniac who has targetted a 13 year old child.

G.B. your son. The only way to deal with an ambush is to attack through it, no matter what. Like you said: chairs, fists, guns, knives. Even if you take the bullet, you protect the innocent behind you. That's what you do.

I'd like to meet that kid if he can hurl a chair for 100 yards.

The answer is to arm the people and let the local Sheriff's set up the patrols, perimeters, etc. and then by God protect the children instead of hiding with them.

Right. Its going to have to be at the local level and with volunteer manpower. No way can this be organized above the school district level and no way are preexisting law enforcement manpower levels able to do it.

The American people are willing and able to volunteer to do such things and follow their Sherrif's orders and organizational plan but they will never be asked to rise up and do it and in fact will be actively discouraged from doing any such thing.

I have my problems with public schools and have made them known regularly here. But its my opinion you don't shut them down in the face of an attack or you reward the attacker and encourage the attacker to start working on the next institution.

A death is a death. One in a million odds must not shut down a society, or we have lost this war already.

If we shut the schools, as someone said, he will shoot a kid not at school to prove he still can do it anyway.

Then we will have millions of kids hiding inside their houses 24/7, being trained by their parents in cowardice and surrender.

Nothing on earth will stop the Islamikazis from setting loose 100 snipers on the day they choose. Will we just shut down our society? Or get tough and carry on, like Londoners in the Blitz?

**************************

I have to sign off and type my book.

Bumping your comments Jeff Head. We are at war and the enemy is inside the wire. It's a holy war, but no one will admit to that.

I live in Tidewater VA. not all that far from Ashland, and yes it is a small town but it is in the Richmond Metro area and Richmond rivals DC for it's per capita murder rate.

Closing the schools only feeds these kids anxiety, it's stupid and counter productive.

He's a srong one ... but no that strong.

He meant that for a close quarter situation and doing what he had to do to get a fix on the sniper for the longer range type of situation. He's used to hearing gun fire on the range and in the hills where we somtimes shoot and has a good ear for it as a result

What we need are teams patrolling out on the perimeter for the sniper activity. We may have to come to that ... I know where I live that there would be no shortage of volunteers.

I wondered about that too. I wondered why just about every armed guard in the country isn't now en route to the DC area.

All you're doing is teaching your kids to be afraid. What if he hits in VA again? Do we close the whole state down. I live here too and I have to be in Richmond tomorrow on business and I most certainly will be there. And I expect all of my clients will be too.

Really? That's really your opinion? If an invading army was approaching you'd vote to leave them open?

Thanks, he's a good kid. Better than his Dad, and I am very proud of him and humbled by him. He doesn't wear it on his shirt either. Very quite, but with strong resolve.

The closing of public schools would greatly enhance this society. I find it absurd that you would consider teh closing of a few public schools as the shut down of society.
