Schools to close in the Richmond VA area on Monday

Not sure how many schools but I thought I heard in 3 counties..if one sniper can do this to us think of what 20 could do

Watch for these closings to spread throughout the entire DC metro area.

But there's a chance the sniper may strike in Wyoming next, and why should the mothers in that state risk their kids lives? We must close schools nationwide. If the sniper is not caught for years, that's the way it goes. As long as we save the life of a single child...etc ad nauseum.

We should shut down all the gas stations also. Most of the shootings have occurred at gas stations. If we shut down the gas stations that should stop a bunch of shootings no?

They would be comforted by their parents instead of strangers. JMO but I think that is the issue here. I would hear on the news that they were telling parents that their kids were safe and not to come get them and couldn't imagine how the parents must have felt.I think we should support whatever decision they decide is best for their children. After 911 I was uncomfortable about going out at first. I did but I didn't take little ones with me. I do now but it took time. CD

Why couldn't a few dozen of them take a dang vacation day or two, and GUARD THIER OWN CHILDREN's schools for the next five days - or however long it takes?

The prudent thing to do is to shut down ALL parking lots in the area indefinitely. And ban hunting. And close the schools.

It's certainly possible, but if this is the "credible threat" theory it might be even worse than a panic closing.

Consider all the "credible threats" we've had over the past year where nothing has happened.

What it might mean is that terrorists don't even need to have real snipers. They just need to have minimal counterintelligence capability to dupe the panic-stricken government into believing something bad might happen. Then they can just sit back and watch the chaos unfold.

If these armed men were put in groups of two and stationed at various locations in a perimeter around a school and were prepared to shut down all traffic in and out of the area with their cars and announced this fact then the sniper would not show up anywhere near the place.

IMO it's not unreasonable fear that's behind this delay, but a desire to prepare.

These people on this thread would rather call people names than see the logic and reasoning behind planning, or understand it's better to be cautious and stay alive. One day out of school has grown to "forever." Who's exaggerating here?

It is my belief that perhaps there was more in the note that was found than just a phone number. Perhaps a DIRRECT reference as to what could occur at the schools tomorrow?

Then again, maybe I would just like to believe that. Makes it a bit less painful than thinking everyone in the area has lost their spines.

If they keep doing it, than I agree. However, if they are only temporarily doing this to allow time to prepare for increased security around the schools, I do not have a problem with it. We might as well let hte kids have some fun in this time of terror.

As for me, I don't feel the slightest amount of fear stuck out here in Kansas.

Lets just shut down the entire freaking country, confiscate all the guns, and put GPS locators on each of us. That would stop the sniper cold and protect junior.
