Maybe I should post this comment to Vanity, but I'll comment here first. Today's Washington Post indicates on the front page that the police stopped and handcuffed all drivers of white vans near Ashland, Virginia last night. The comment appears below a picture of a driver handcuffed and face down on the blacktop road surface. As terrible as the sniper situation is, this behavior troubles me greatly and smacks of a police state.

Are any of you troubled, also? Any comments?

We had a gigantic discussion of this on the thread from last night. Its still on the breaking news farther down. That thread should cover the whole debate.

While I do not like these tactics I realize there is a whack job out there intent on killing and causing all sorts of commotion in millions of lives. Therefore, I will acccept this limited incursion into my civil rights. This very organized murderer has eluded hundreds of LEO and thousands of FR best guesses--it is time to get this fruit cake/ ME terrorist/ or whatever into custody.

I am convinced that there are at least 2 involved here, if not more.

Get used to it, kiddo! That's what a war on terrorism looks like.

No real comments from me. Who knows what the people in the van tried to do, refused to do, or what?

Possibly the handcuffing was to prevent suicide bomb detonation should the person be the perp and have explosives on his body or in the car.

This is the fault of the terrorists and the position they are putting the law officials in.
