Well, to be fair, one could dismiss that incident, the Japanese sub that shelled a refinery in California, and the Japanese balloon bombs that started fires and killed some people in Oregon as trivial exceptions.

But, Pearl Harbor, and Attu and Kiska (both captured by the Japanese) were all US soil, though not part of the "lower 48" and not states at the time they were attacked.

However, having our CAPITAL burned by a foreign power without doubt is certainly fighting a foreign enemy on our soil; there were a number of large battles on US soil in the War of 1812 in New York, Ohio, Michigan, Louisiana, etc.

Also, there was the raid by Pancho Villa coming out of Mexico, on Columbus, New Mexico, killing quite a few people. 1917 IIRC.

Good observation John H K.

When you come down to it, the teacher is proabably correct. We're just scropping for staws. (or is it it gropping?)

Agattu as well as Attu and Kiska.

I know it's trivial, but I've been carrying that fact around in my head for 30 years and finally have a chance to use it!

Okay...it has been awhile since I taught American history...I currently teach high school psychology/sociology and American Government (an important function for a conservative in an inner city school in Miami, FL--so that these kids can see all the sides instead of the AGENDA). I'll concede your points. Gee count on Freepers to nitpick to death.

For the record, I was referring to modern warfare and a generation of weaklings produced by the liberal vietnam era hippies. Either we will be forced into a police state with gun confiscation and a severe restructuring of the Bill of Rights which could happen in a moment of panic on a national scale. OR we could go the other way and lend ourselves to the effort with sure and steadfast determination...something I have not seen demonstrated in large scale by our youth in the fourteen years I have been a teacher....and a teacher of the year a few years ago.

BTW if you think I should seek other employment I would urge you to swap jobs with me for a few weeks and see which one of us gets arrested for assault or gooes to the hospital because they got their butts kicked first. LOL
