Again, you are making the illogical leap that restrictions on the goverment as enumerated in the Constitution are the source of rights for individuals. Read your own posts. Those are restrictions, not sources. I don't blame you, our education system is a failure...

Instead of cutting and pasting my own comment and letting it stand on it's own merit, you instead use as a crutch the independently meanlingless description, "illogical leap" to describe my comment, unsourced.

I never said that the restriction on the government as enumerated in the Constitution is the source of our rights.

Instead it is the restriction on government as enumerated in the Constitution that is the source of our Constitutional Rights and it is our Constitutional rights that tries to protect our unalieanble rights whose source is the creator or objective reason.

Your understanding of the Constitution and the word "rights" is suspect. You play sematic games with the word "rights" for no logical reason. Are you a libertarian?

Using your logic, the phrase "unalienable right" is redundant.

----""Someone here was noting a pattern. Has this come up yet? It occurred to me while I was wakin' up""----

Below is the pattern I notice which has been broken on last shooting. I guess the guy felt he need to break the pattern.

I think the terrorist sniper is out to destroy what America is about. The consumer, Freedom of movement without looking over shoulder. He is using the pattern/symbolism below to make his point.

Alternating White <-> Black shooting pattern....
# 6-12 shootings....

13 White Male (Pattern Broke after 7 shootings)
12 White Female (per news conference)
11 Black Male
10 White Male
09 Black Boy
08 White Woman (I think this was a woman at Michaels)
07 Black Man
06 White Woman

1-5 Shootings was Meant to generate Media and Police attention.

The only clearly Non-Black/Non-White people that got a shot. An Indian male had United states flags clearly marking his car. The Latino Woman was sitting outside a United States Post office.

I'm thinking the Sniper is shooting people equally who
are mostly associated to Historical America...White and Black race.

I'm thinking this could be Terrorist related

Many of your "facts" are indeed true--events and so forth. But your intrepretation of them is open to argument and my fellow educators would probably dispute them. And like many folks not in the profession of education you seem to think that your intrepretation is the correct one. Everybody thinks they're a better teacher than a teacher.

I find this posting to be very boring and quite a divergence from the one in which I'm truly interested: The sniper attacks and their links to 9-1-1. If you want to argue history start another thread. You'll probably draw just as many posts as this one has (in the thousands) and they'll all be different too. I'm guessing that since you used the term "as a matter of law" that would make you a lawyer? When I was in law school, many of my professors used that term.

I had to wait to become a professional educator to know just how LOUSY those professors were as TEACHERS! They may be great lawyers...but they sure cannot TEACH. The way out they give themselves is given to new law students:

"You're going to teach yourself the Law....We're going to teach you how to THINK LIKE A LAWYER" So I think they know for the most part that they don't really qualify as "teachers."

NOW....can we get back to the shootings? If you respond to this with more historical arguments....I'm going to ignore them. Stick to the courtroom and stay out of my classroom...unless of course I'm teaching your kid. Then I welcome your input on how to control the little monster.

Why did you address this post to me, of all people? I came onto this thread to discuss the shooting of an American tonight. I had no other agenda, didn't want to see it go off topic. Oh well, so much for that.

Okay, so it was a bad choice of words. It was late, I was tired and dismayed to see the thread about a SHOOTING IN VA., turned into a constitutional rights and who knows what else, arguement.

Ah, okay! By that time of the night I wasn't firing on all cylinders.

If they call and ask politely I'll be happy to talk to them.

Within reason. That line for me is providing samples/examples of things that they would normally get a warrant for if I was a valid suspect.

I don't want to enable them to get into the habit of "rounding up the usual suspects" every time they can't solve a crime fast enough.

My innocence should not be the determining factor in my cooperation. That's Banana Republic justice, what the U.S. was founded to counter.

/rant off

Thanks for listening.

You're hopeless. Whether Paine was a deist or danced naked in the moonlight while howing at the stars, it doesn't matter, he understood that rights were granted by a higher authority than men. You don't have a clue.

Guess some stupid reporter out there has never heard of using a .30 / .223 sabot sleeve on a round.

More likely some stupid BATF "expert". One wouldn't necessarily expect the report to have heard of sabot rounds, but the "expert" the reporter talked to should have.

Of course it's possible this is disinformation to let the sniper think they are not onto this particular aspect, while in reality they are.

Then why haven't all visa from the Mideast Stopped? He has the power to do it, immediately.

Even IF he was to do this .. you know that the ACLU will be jumping up and down ..

And? So what? Let them jump.... Oh, it would LOOK Bad, might hurt Republican chances in election, huh?

LOL... What a leader.

after July 4, 1776 the British were foreigners.

Some considered them foreigners even before April 19, 1775. They certainly were not Americans, as some, but not all, Colonials thought of themselves.

To simplify, there are no Constitutional rights. There are only Constitutional protected rights. The Constitution is drafted to protect preexisting rights. The reason this is important is that following the logic that some rights are created by the Constitution allows tyrants the power to restrict or remove those rights. I.e. by your argument, the representatives are placed in a power position superior to the Constitution and can thus alter individual rights. All sections you have quoted as a source of individual rights are only restrictions on goverment's interference with individual rights and/or policies for setting up the goverment - not the source of indiduial rights for the average citizen. Again, semantics aside, show me the section(s) and paragraph(s) whereby the U.S. Constitution creates individual rights for citizens of this country.

Didn't the British burn Washington during the War of 1812?

Not to mention besieging Baltimore, from which incident Francis Scot Key penned the words that became the National Anthem. Or the Battle of New Orleans, which gave us nice catchy tune, and President Andrew Jackson.

Wasn't General Pershing chasing Pancho Villa around Arizona or New Mexico prior to WW I?

Maybe a little, mostly he was chasing him around northern Mexico, and not catching him either.

Get real. Of course he could do it....BUT.....I'm betting his act would be turned over within 24 hours by a liberal judge. And trust me....the ACLU et al. know exactly which judges are sympathetic and THAT would be where the petition is filed.

I teach American history

How sad for your students.

and we have never fought a FOREIGN enemy on our own shores...

The previous poster said nothing about FOREIGN enemies, and there have been several REAL LIVE wars fought on American soil, even laying the war of independence aside.

all the combatants in the civil war were Americans!

Yes they were, but it was still a REAL-LIVE, and particularly bloody, war. Some say it was the first war, not just American war, of the industrial age. In any event while the Confederates were Americans, in their light they were not citizens of the United States. They were Americans, by dint of sharing the history of the US up to that point, and in the sense that everyone living from Canada to Tiera del Fuego (southern tip of South American) are Americans.
