When one hears a shot, and you are on a major road. Stay put. This would make it difficult for the shooter to get out or move through traffic. Good plan, Moose-Owie. Send out the emergency broadcast system warning and just ask people to STOP their vehicles. All it would take is 1 in 100 radio listeners to snarl traffic all over DC.

"
What a great idea about the civil defense horn alarms."
They have had them in communities for years. Usually they go off on approaching tornadoes and extreme storms. Part of the Early Warning System.

I think the change of location is what scares me the most and why we are looking over our backs in other parts of the country(in central OH here--not all that far a trip from DC). I say if they move then that will lend more credibility to it being Islamic terrorists since they probably have the cover and support of certain Muslim communities to hide in in one area or another and while they are moving their "set up".

CNN is typically a definite no-no in this house, too, but when there's breaking news, I will channel surf over there to check out their reporting. Others think the cell may be under surveillance as well and I will keep my fingers crossed that you're right. It's a definite maybe - considering all the videotape and witness info from two different shooting locations - I'd like to believe LEO was able to narrow down the field of suspects. The only thing remaining then that makes me think they haven't narrowed it down is that FBI agents are going to camp gitmo. Could be to get more info on a cell they already have under surveillance or it could be to show videotape and composite sketches and torture the sh!t out of the detainees there. Now that's a pretty picture I'd pay money for.

The down side is that it would leave poeple in close proximity, vulnerable to being shot. But maybe put the vehicle in park and lay down in the front seat, to make oneself less of a target?
I just do not see LE being able to catch the shooter without serious help from citizens. And in this case, people have to prevent the shooter from being able to get away.

Maybe you shouldn't be working with sharp instruments today? Unless you're sharpening something to use on a media talking head, of course. Then it's perfectly advisable to carry on.

I wholeheartedly agree with Peach - what a great idea!
Neal Boortz discussed yesterday the possibility of this being a trial run by terrorist cells to see how our LEO would react. I'm afraid that we failed that test miserably although our poor performance may be attributed to the nature of the crime rather than incompetence.
I would hope that the powers that be have considered your idea, but it certainly couldn't hurt to contact them with your wonderful suggestion (and probable solution).

Anyone with good ideas, such as the one espoused earlier about an early warning system, should contact LEO and suggest said idea. They (LE) are a little overwhelmed, sleep deprived, and just plain afraid of thinking outside the box and need all the help they can get.

a movie ? Not to worry. You didn't miss much. IMO it was a terrible movie, at least the part we watched before stopping the vcr. Not one of Costner's better projects.

re the trial run/poor performance thing:
MooseChief may have a heart of gold yadayadayada,
and i know he got out there to begin with 'cause that's where it all started,
but his continuing to act as the front guy through most of this has certainly
added to the appearance that they're all clueless, or something ...

Offensive 180 Spin Against Moving Vehicle Blocking from Front: 1. wait for a turn or bend in the road
2. ram the blocking vehicle's rear corner which is located on the outer edge of the turn (if the road curves left, then attack the right corner, if the road curves right then attack the left corner.
3. blocking vehicle will enter a 180 degree spin and lose control.
