Questioner: You're saying the tail-light, the cream-colored Astro van, the firearm, and the description are "not credible." What DO we have, that people might look for?

Moose: Again, we will not be releasing any uncorroborated information.

Translation: We got nothin'.

drove by the Falls Church VA Home Depot a little over an hour ago (12:45 p.m. Eastern today).... crawling with agents, both in the HD covered parking lot with surveyor's equipment and movie cameras, as well as across the Hwy 50 in a parking lot, at least 60, in uniform, set up at a command post. Atleast 10 TV trucks with satellite, and about 10 or so cameramen and reporters standing giving reports or filming. A truck cart is still at the location the victim was hit. The nearby lane to get in/out of that underground parking lot, is only about 50/60 feet away. If the shot wastaken from that lane, the shooter was realllllll close. And of course, a clear sniper shot from the access road (eastbound) outside, about another 60-70 feet, and then clear across the road in the parking lot. Probably trying to get various angles of bullet trajectory.

Yes, the operations were well prepared but LE did its share too. From the get go they decided, in the absence of any hard evidence, that the perp was the angry white male NRA gun-nut and did the evil assualt weapon/sniper rifle dog-n-pony show. What a crowd pleaser...just what most folks wanted to hear and accept. Thats all they know. They just arent able to think outside the box or, worse yet, correctly understand what evidence there is. There are lessons to learn here....on both sides. The question is who is going to be teachable and learn them? I doubt LE will even after many beatings.

Was the witness "credible" or not who identified the weapon in the latest killing

FOX just reported the one witness seeing Man, Gun and Van is not credible. I guess the witness is on the Terrorist theory bandwagon.

Wrong about the AK74...
Witness possibly made up seeing the gun...
According to latest news conference by Moose,ATF, and FBI...
This shooter is using a Contender pistol chambered for .223 ammo...
NOT driving a van or box truck see post #25 this topic...

Bookmark these threads, folks! We will need this when we start a Freep campaign to call on a lot of resignations of politically correct public officials after the smoke clears on this and the Alpha Tango element (arab terrorists) is confirmed.

"I dunno. Head shots really do suck......"

The standard (55-, 62-grain) .224 bullet still won't reliably fragment unless it's at about 2700fps or greater. Not that it won't or can't. But we're talking about center of mass shots with barely-recoverable bullet fragments, in addition to head shots. And with the exception of the shot through the Michael's window, there have been no misses. My hunch is a rifle. "If you know you're going to a gunfight...."

I would think they'd be able to tell, at a minimum, what twist rate the barrel is, but if they have they aren't letting us know.

All based on what we're being told, which may or may not be true and accurate. And my assumption the shooter's using a standard bullet, as I have not heard anything to the contrary.

First i've heard of the pistol theory, maybe the extractor left a mark on the empty case they found at the school site?

some witness saw what he thought he was supposed to see whenever these shootings happen, only he didn't really see what he thought he saw. See?

Si.

I once was involved in the contractor-based development of a comparator microscope and was left with the impression that it would be very difficult to ID a weapon on the basis of toolmarks, grooves, etc. on bullet fragments as are so regularly highlighted in this case(s). But who knows anymore?

The empty casing is, in my opinon, old from a different gun and years old...
Probably came from a varmit hunter a long time ago as where the school is located, is thickly wooded(or used to be)...
Don't know if the casing and tarot card were found together or not...Don't think I have heard that they were together...

I postulated ( and posted )THAT exact theory last week.. and if I can think like that why ain't the LEO's.

In these times they need to think TERROR first... THEN rule it out, If the evidence dictates

I would favor a Steyr-Aug for this sort of thing. Bullpup design means it smaller and more maneuverable. The magazine being at the back would reduce likelihood of snagging on window frame. The right side rear ejection port would ensure spent casings would always fall inside your vehicle if firing 90 degrees or less forward on the driver's side. Also, if things head south, you stand a better chance in a fire fight.

If Moose says "dis" and "dat" instead of "this" and "that" one more time I'm going to scream.

Now don't go gettin' all flustrated...

Interesting about the surveillance. The FBI profilers (voodoo scientists) must think he's going to do a rerun there.

I say he's headed south, and we will hear from him later today, halfway between Fredericksburg and Richmond.
