"Sniper" Thursday Press Conference Discussion

Did anybody else watch this press conference? Did you all hear the same thing I did, which was:

Questioner: You're saying the tail-light, the cream-colored Astro van, the firearm, and the description are "not credible." What DO we have, that people might look for?

Moose: Again, we will not be releasing any uncorroborated information.

Translation: We got nothin'.

All of this madness is understandable in light of the tragic fact that the American people, who variously serve as LEOs, potential wit(l)nesses, snipers, and mediawhores elected Bill Clinton President of the United States -- not once, but twice -- and damned near elected AlGore as a catastrophic encore......

"I think they are witholding information so as not to show the sniper their "hand." And this is wise."

Instead, they're showing him their a$$......

I was more concerned that they might be realizing it was two vans and two teams, thus accounting for the discriptions

I doubt that the LEAs are withholding anything. With so many different agencies involved, from 2-3 states, municipalities, federal, and now military, if there was more information, there would be leaks. There is no way that they could keep all these hundreds of police and agents silent. Someone would say something. And with the way the media is falling over themselves to get the latest scoop, money would be paid to get any "unnamed sources" to leak info. This whole "sniper" incident has been another ratings boon for the cable news networks. Which means, a ton of money. And for CNN and MSNBC, who have been in financial trouble, this is great news.

The bottom line, I believe, is that the LEAs have no real hard clues or evidence. All this bad information that has been published is just leading them down thousands of wild goose chases. Thus spreading thin, already thin resources. If they did have good leads and information, we would know in round-about ways. This shooter(s) have gone to ground for now. I hope, forever. But I fear that he(they) will resurface soon. Maybe a short distance outside the area of concentration. Maybe not. No one, (including LEAs) know for sure. This guy(s) good. To pull off the last shooting, in a parking garage, at a popular mall, with people all around, and not leave any good witnesses, is the mark of a well trained, well planned and prepared operation. To me, that leaves out the nut-so wack-job, redneck or disgruntled ex-military type. A guy like that, would be sitting in a bar on Friday night belting back a few cold ones and he would start making bragging statements. We don't have any of that. This guy(s) are calculating and cold. They don't talk and they don't take unnecessary risks. This, I fear, is far form over. If he stops now, and does go to ground, then, we probably will never know. This will probably go down as one of the greatest unsolved crimes/mysteries in history, if not the greatest.

He/they stake out a spot which is a public "coming & going" spot (eg. gas stations, parking lots, etc) where they know that people will come, stand out in view, and then leave...
He/they WAIT until a white van, etc. comes into view, THEN they shoot & take off...
Witnesses will focus on the van, especially NOW that everyone is looking for it, and he/they will ride off undetected"...

Stop worrying.....just "ZIG and ZAG" whenever you go outside. If you MUST talk to someone while outside, may I suggest you and your company shadow box, or if you're near a telephone pole, maybe you could "dance around the maypole" while you're chatting. Perhaps if everyone just tied a good on on, we could all do a drunken weave around the parking lots at work.

I have been listening to famous FBI profiler, Clit Von Zit, on CNN, Fox, MSNBC, etc, describe the sniper and have drawn a sketch from his descriptions.

I think the fact that a .224 caliber bullet is being delivered at a high enough velocity to reliably fragment, resulting in its incapacitating and quite deadly wound eliminates the possibility that this shooter is using anything with a barrel less than about 14.5 inches. Probably more like 20-24" (a rifle.)

I will be quite surprised if it is not a bolt-action hunting rifle and is one of the sexy-looking semi-autos ATF loves to display at the press podium.

The surveillance at Home Depot may be due to that one girl (did she work at Barnes & Noble?) who was quoted as 'lightning doesn't strike twice'?

That may have been a challenge to the shooter.

Moose may be denying that the report of a white or cream colored van is credible, but on my drive in to DC this morning I saw at least three vans fitting that description on the side of the road being interrogated/searched by the police.

Was the witness "credible" or not who identified the weapon in the latest killing -- from the closest vantage point and with good lighting -- as am "AK-74"? If so, this contradicts Chief Moose's parade of American weapons that fire a .223 round, and tends to "corroborate" the witnesses that say the killer(s) is a "Middle-Eastern" man.
