"Lieber Polizist... Ich Bin Allah" is perfectly normal German. "Dear policeman" is stilted and awkward in English. Several of the 9/11 terrorists lived and studied in Germany. If it is confirmed that the note was in German, you can reduce the odds of this being a domestic nutbag to microscopic, even if it is a single shooter with no accomplices. If the note-writer knows little enough English that he would be compelled to write in German, he is also probably a recent arrival - like the terrorist-in-a-box they caught in Canada.

I think McVeigh, of all known serial killers and their methods, did not fit what is "commonly done" and known about serial killers and their profiles. So, if this fits the McVeigh "fluke," let's just say I would be surprised. It is not impossible, but I doubt likely.

Maybe its a cover operation like people have been suggesting. Draw the LEOs from DC, attack the city center. Or maybe its a rogue cell. Or maybe its designed to slowly terrorize the populous ie a horror movie rather than a bang bang bang attack ie 9/11. Lots of people who dont live in the DC area still dont think its a big deal, maybe these people want to give people a false sense of security before hitting their home town. or it could be a home-grown wacko, pissed because the Redskins suck.

Sorry I didn't include the /sarcasm tag, but I assumed it would be totally obvious, particularly to anyone that might have read anything else I have ever posted. I have been amazed at the inclination of the media and 'experts' to 'profile' the white, male, gun owners over the past few weeks. It is a myth that white guys are the only serial killers (at least out of proportion to % population -- remember Ferguson, Ramirez, Warnost, et al.?)
