Linda Tripp's Victory
Accuracy in Media ^ | 10/16/02 | Reed Irvine and Cliff Kincaid

Posted on 10/16/2002 10:03:49 AM PDT by Jean S

Linda Tripp, who exposed Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky, won a court victory recently, but the media completely ignored it. Tripp is suing the Defense Department for multiple violations of her privacy rights after she exposed the Lewinsky affair. Her suit alleges that her bosses at the Defense Department leaked derogatory information from her personnel and security file to the media. This was in retaliation for her role in the Starr investigation and the eventual impeachment of Bill Clinton.

Many believe that Tripp’s action contributed significantly to George W. Bush’s election victory in 2000. Given the closeness of the vote, who is to say that her exposure of the seediness and corruption in the Clinton-Gore White House did not make the difference? Surprisingly, the Bush administration has tried to have her claims dismissed or, failing that, narrowly limited to one specific violation.

It’s bad enough that, despite Papa Bush’s entreaties, the Bush White House refused to rehire her after Bill Clinton fired her on his last full day in office. Ironically, Federal Judge Emmet G. Sullivan, a Clinton appointee, denied the Bush administration’s request for a summary judgment dismissal of Tripp’s lawsuit. He also ordered the government to develop with Tripp’s attorneys a broader plan for discovery.

Tripp’s attorneys issued a press release detailing Judge Sullivan’s decision, but AIM could find no evidence of any media interest in the story. Tripp’s attorneys reported exactly one phone call from an Associated Press reporter, who did not produce a story. Of course, few people in recent history have been as vilified by the mainstream media as Linda Tripp. Her role as a whistleblower in the Clinton sex scandal made her a public figure, which exposed her to one of the most vicious media smear campaigns in recent memory. Asked why the Bush administration is opposing Tripp’s lawsuit, her attorney said that "they just want her to go away."

Tripp is not the only Clinton era whistleblower to get cold-shoulder treatment from the Bush administration and the national media. A recent study released by the National Whistleblower Center revealed that retaliation against whistleblowers remains a serious problem in the United States. Nearly half of those surveyed by the Center say they were fired after blowing the whistle and that retaliation was rampant in both government and the private sector. The study cited the example of Enron and WorldCom employees who were aware of shady accounting practices but who were afraid to contact federal authorities due to the lack of whistleblower protection. The study also cites FBI agents fearful of revealing the vulnerabilities in federal counter-terrorism programs, but afraid to speak out prior to the nine/eleven tragedy.

The AP ran a wire story on this study. It was picked up, but buried by the New York Times. Both Washington dailies, supposedly devoted to good coverage of events in the nation’s capital, ignored the story. The media are neglecting their basic mission to act as a watchdog to expose government wrongdoing.

From reading the conclusion of the court-it would seem the Government lawyers, duty bound to defend the govt against her claim, did not TRY very seriously to prevent Linda from this win. That lightens my heart.

But I feel like puking when I think of that snotty, coke nosed billy boy clinton and his hick wife FIRING Linda on their last day of the klintonian reign of terror. THEY DID NOT HAVE THE COURAGE TO DO IT WHILE IN OFFICE.

Shame on those two hoods. Billy Dale, Paula Jones, Genifer Flowers, Juanita Broaddrick, Sen InHofe and on and on and on WERE NOT ENOUGH for these two swine....oh no...if the klintons do anything, they get even! I cannot WAIT until they are actually LIVING in a trailer park somewhere far away where they can no longer hurt people. I hope it happens soon.

Donald Stone is an outspoken Freeper who has been poking the nest of corrupt Maryland Democrat snakes for as long as I can remember. Stephen Montanarelli is the Maryland state prosecutor and a Democrat. He is the one who pursued Tripp. Mr. Montanarelli has very different standards for the prosecution of Democrats, and the prosecution of the enemies of the Democrats.

The following is excerpted from Linda Tripp's Motion to Dismiss: IV. Stephen Montanarelli, State Prosecutor, Utilized Tainted Information Mr. Montanarelli failed to adopt and implement adequate precautions and measures to ensure that he would not be exposed to impermissible information which was acquired by the Office of the Independent Counsel. Mr. Montanarelli permitted members of his office to review articles published in newspapers and other periodicals conveying information which related to Mrs. Tripp’s immunized cooperation and testimony. (T. 250-252). In fact, Mr. Montanarelli maintained a file which included information related to facts relevant to the State’s investigation which had ...

Judicial Watch needs only to conduct a financial audit and investigation of the Maryland State Prosecutor, Montanarelli and his agency. The Maryland State Prosecutor's office is traditionally held on a very short rope, meaning they are given very little money to investigate corrupt politicians in Maryland. The Democratic Governor, Glendening, MD. Attorney Gen. Curran Jr. and the Head of the Maryland State Police, David B. Mitchell like it this way. It insures the protection of the criminal activities of their personal acquaintances and political cronies.JUST WHERE DID MONTANARELLI SUDDENLY GET THE UNLIMITED FINANCIAL RESOURCES TO CONDUCT A ONE YEAR INVESTIGATION ...

After a year of investigation, State Prosecutor Stephen Montanarelli said the grand jury indicted Mrs. Tripp on one count of illegal interception stemming from a phone conversation taped on Dec. 22, 1997, after she allegedly was told by her lawyer that secret taping was illegal. She also was charged with allegedly disclosing the contents of that conversation to Newsweek magazine. Montanarelli, a Democrat, said he would prosecute the case himself. Asked whether the case would be seen by some as politically inspired, he said, "I can't help how it will be seen .... I think we've done our duty.''

if this President had rehired Linda Tripp, it would have looked like he was "PART OF" the "Vast Right Wing Conspiracy" that Hitlery spoke of.

Totally aside from hiring, or not hiring back, or whatever else, I am proud to be a member of the vast right wing conspiracy. Besides that, Hillary has fat ugly legs.

Thanks for the info, I'm looking through it. Even so, it sounds like a case of improper application and enforcement of the law, rather than a bad law itself. (IMO, anyway.) And I'd certainly be in favor of getting a real, FAIR law enforcement official in the state prosecutor's office.

BTW, anyone have the latest on the governor's race in MD?

What does "Stalin" mean ?

Man of steel. "Stal'" (steel in Russian) is a loan-word off of German "Stahl."

Before you ask, "Lenin" is a pseudonym, also, and means "Man from the Lena River."

Funny you should mention this, just this week Oct. 15, 2002 marks the 9th year I've spent investigating the Democratic cockroaches and a few Republican cockroaches in Maryland,Washington D.C., Virginia, and Florida.

It was Oct. 15, 1993 when some politically well connected known members of organized crime seized control of a corporation I owned controlling interest in and threatened to have me arrested on unspecified charges if I didn't capitulate to their extortion attempts.

I'd guess that I have enough documentary evidence to send Montanarelli, his chief investigator,James Cabezas, and his top attorney Thomas Kreehly (sp)to federal prison for a number of years if we could only find someone to enforce the so-called "Rule of Law " in this country.

It figures that someone who takes his screen name from Uncle Joe (more blood-stained than Hitler) should cite Brock's book with approval. You lefties are almost all incapable of recognizing that Communism was morally indistinguishable from Nazism.

plug the phrase "parris" and "montanarelli" into your Google search engine, and you'll find some interesting reading under the sites Citizens-Prevail.org and The Danger to Free Speech.

I'm not even going into all the stuff where Montanarelli has refused to prosecute all manner of Democrat corruption. We have chapters of stuff on this guy on Free Republic. He's a good little Clintonite soldier.

Equal treatment under the law

There is no law in Maryland. Only the "law" meted out by corrupt judges, appointed by corrupt officials, "elected" fraudulently.

You saw for yourself Stone's article about where the funds to "prosecute" Tripp came from. They magically appeared from nowhere. I'll bet the phone logs from the prosecutor's office in 1998 make fascinating reading. ;-)

Do you per chance recall the role of a woman named Tamposi (daughter of a NH slum lord who was appointed to her position by the NH governor)? She shared an apartment with one passport file searcher. I haven't heard anything about Ms. Tamposi for a long time.

I did not know Linda Tripp was the whistle blower in passport files search.

Interesting how the Maryland Assembly could fund the State Prosecutor's office for this investigation etc. but ordinarily gives Montanarelli almost no funding.

Maryland is so corrupt it is impossible to understand unless you have seen it first hand. I think Linda Tripp could very well have been the victim of "an accident" if she had not saved the tape. Perhaps she knows more about how these things work than we realize.

Who your friends and what they do is irrelevant.... and the same can be said of mine.

It is a hard sell that Ms. Tripp has any respect for the term "privacy"...

Or maybe you think privacy is a luxury to be granted to those who "earn" it through "good" behavior or the lack of "bad" behavior.

"cordially"? interesting closing for someone who resorted to a personal attack.....

<< Who your friends and what they do is irrelevant.... and the same can be said of mine. >>

"Irrelevent" perfectly describes the point, whatever it is, that you are attempting here. My contention is that a person who demands under threat of death and/or worse that you perjure yourself before a United States of America Grand Jury does not meet any but the most perverted and deviant definition of the word "friend."

<< It is a hard sell that Ms. Tripp has any respect for the term "privacy"...

Or maybe you think privacy is a luxury to be granted to those who "earn" it through "good" behavior or the lack of "bad" behavior. >>

It is simply appalling that any reasonably sane Human Being might believe a person who, with unimaginable courage, faced down threats to her life and to the lives of her family members and not only remembered the Admonition "All that is necessary for Evil to prevail is that Good Men do nothing," is not entitled to, at the very least, the same privacy that is the God Given Right of every American. Let alone the awed respect of All Good Men, everywhere.

<< "Cordially"? Interesting closing for someone who resorted to a personal attack..... >>

But then, if you can wring "personal attack" from my suggestion that you might, liberal-style, be attempting to redefine and/or parse the word "friend" to make it fit tangible prejudice and/or predetermination insofar as Ms Tripp is concerned, then maybe either and/or both of "reasonable" and "sane" are stretches, too?

Cordially -- Brian

Because *REAL* power continues to rest in the FBI files co-opted early on by the Clintonistas.

Not to single you out for this reference to these FBI files the Clintons have but if the info in such files is so damaging to people and they would say and do anything to avoid having that information made public...if, if, if...

Why do we hold these mem, these men that are so easily blackmailed in such high esteem.

Dump the bums.
