MSNBC says AK-74....
MSNBC

Posted on 10/15/2002 4:13:51 PM PDT by fooman

MSNBC says that the terrorist used an AK-74. That and the fact the AP witness says that this guy looked Middle Eastern(MSNBC left this out), plus the story about two 'hispanics' at an earlier strike.

Plus the elusivisness and meticuluous planning of this group...

They should have alerted sooner if they were honest,

This would be counter to purposes (as I attempted to allude to earlier and as another poster also indicated) ...

they still milked it for all the gun control propaganda it's worth.

On this point, I have seen surprisingly little 'milking' of the gun control issue - except for the attempt to push the 'bullet finger-printing' idea ...

did you mean the AK-47? Or the "civilian knock-off," the AR-15

The AR-15 was the original design for the M-16. It was never related in any way to the AK-47 plus the topic indicated and AK-74 which is a different weapon yet.

If this report is true, the .223 news that the media has been blasting over the air for the past week is wrong.

There are civilian versions of the AK-74 available in Europe that ARE chambered in .223,as well as in 7.62x39. I have no idea if they are available in the US or not.

As I wrote earlier in another thread, these guys just made their first mistake at the Home Depot.

Getting out of the van to fire was a violation of tradecraft. Now they've given the LEO's witnesses. They've also given the DOJ the excuse to jump in with a finding that Al Qaeda is up to its old tricks.

This is a diversion. Something else is in the works. Upwards to 1000 FBI are working this case.

I strongly suggest that the time is coming soon when we will have to activate the Second Amendment for popular defense of the nation. Consider:

The "Palestinian Intifada" occupies a special place in the Arab mythos.

Terrorist attacks against civilians in Israel have been praised by the AQ and are seen by terrorists groups throughout the ME as the weapon of choice against Israel.

I strongly believe that AQ's next step is a campaign of urban terror here in the United States to distract us from Saddam's work on his nuclear weapons program, to stall us, to give Saddam time to complete his work.

We must not devote any more resources to homeland defense than is absolutely necessary and give the Iraqis the time they need to build their bomb. That's where the Second Amendment comes in.

The Israelis understand this. It is time that we rediscovered our own best defense.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

I lose you past this point ... 'cause I *don't* think 'something else is in the works'.

We have a very brazen individual out to prove a point - and he *is* proving it ...

As for having an AK 74 in the U.S.: it is not so difficult to infiltrate cell members through Canada and Mexico who have 'completed' their training in Qaeda camps and they would be able to 'bring along their weapons' if secreted properly in a 'delivery' truck. The use of a single shot would possibly indicate they have brought a supply of ammo with them and don't know how to rechamber for more readily available NATO .223

Interesting news. As far as the police just now figuring out is was not a traditional .223, recall that they kept refering to "ballistics evidence" connecting the murders. I wonder if the unusual caliber could the what they were refering to... especially after they found a spent case ot one site.

1 We have a very brazen individual out to prove a point - and he *is* proving it ..

But consider. At least 300, and possibly a thousand FBI people are on this case.

And done at such little cost, at least from the terrs point of view.

Looks like more and more people are considering the "swarthy ME guys" as a possibility.

Again, it could be a "Lone Gunman". I thought so at first myself. Now I'm having serious doubts.

It's just my opinion, but I don't think that anyone who's got a fascination with the 'Sniper Culture' would choose an AK-74 for their rifle.

It is most likley just the media that is fascinated with the sniper culture rather than the killer. He may have an illegal ak-74 or may have bought a semi-auto version simply because that is a rifle that he is familiar with. Which would be the case if we are talking about a terrorist trained in the middle east.
