Seems witness comments should be the headline of this story!
To: Iron Eagle
Unfortunately, the ACLU is certainly already seeking an injunction preventing the police from stopping anyone who "looks Middle Eastern." Can't have any wicked racial profiling, you know...

Thanks for posting this. I agree: witness comments are very interesting.

One of the many reasons FR frowns on people altering the headlines is that many people have very faulty reading comprehension skills.
The hispanic man and the middle-eastern man are the same guy.

Young said as he backed his truck out of his parking spot, a white Astro van with two men inside tried to turn into his lane. He said the driver appeared very agitated to find his way blocked and instead drove by a neighboring Chinese restaurant and out of sight.Young described the driver as a short man of slight build who appeared to be Mideastern. He said, "I got a good look at the guy."

I heard the witnesses describe the perp as dark but the media keeps saying white. Do they know or are they just being pc? I think pc should be erased from everyone's mind, especially at a time like this. More people can die because the media doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings.

I think the news is shortsighted (stupid)in naming the witness to a possible sniper killing, he might be the next target.
To: Iron Eagle
Another reason why FR frowns on people altering the headlines is that this article has already been posted!

The point of changing the title was the content warranted it. That was the point of my post.
Thanks for the reading comprehension tip. I think the witness does say their are "two men" and that the "driver" appeared middle-eastern. Shoot me! I am sure the second guy was Bill-Bob Thorton. The actual headline of the main link from the Fox Page is, "Police Searching for Van."
As a former award-winning journalist, who also is in the line of fire here in Arlington, my point was that the news in this story is the physical description of at least on e of the suspects by a named fact witness, not that the Police are looking for a Van.
To: Jaidyn
I've heard both olive skinned and white on Fox News. I also saw yesterday that MSNBC at first said the former Marine the police were talking to had a tarrot card in his van...they recanted this a few minutes later. It is really unbelievable watching just how wrong these channels get it during breaking news.

Another reason why FR frowns on people altering the headlines is that this article has already been posted! It is not posted with a headline that identifies and alerts FReepers to the actual "real news" is it? If so, my apologies. I almost never post articules, but given the import of the information from a witness, I thought it important to alert the readers and to point out, that the title is weak and unhelpful.
Of course, if I have violated some sacred FR principle that is more important than the news itself, my apologies!
To: Jaidyn
Last night MSNBC carried the live feed from their local affiliate in the DC area most of the night. Since I live in California, I was able to watch continuously until it was well past 2:00am Eastern time (11:00pm Pacific). There were constant reports that the police scanners in the area were describing possible perp as an "olive-skinned man." Due to its access to official sources, police scanners, etc., the media knows more than they report. So I guarantee you they know witness descriptions are not indicating a white perp. Just another example of their lies.

Kill the link or identify that my title is my title. If you are going to post the "unnewsworthy title" the point is lost as the story has already been posted under that title.
To: Iron Eagle
The witness says Middle Eastern, the police change the description to Middle Eastern or Hispanic, and the media change the description again to White.
Typical.

Next time the witness should say: "..HE LOOKED LIKE A MID EAST OR HISPANIC GAY GUY"... that should piss EVERYONE off! (Maybe even the SHOOTER)!

"Franklin recently had a double mastectomy following breast cancer and was still in physical therapy at the time of her death, according to her friend Paul Hulseberg. "
I don't know if you all had read this or not. I've not gone through this thread yet..
To: Cicero
And some FR genius changes the title back killing the browsers' ability to actually understand that their is substantive new news in the story.
To: Iron Eagle
Link to the first posting.
So, if I understand your post # 9 correctly, we should (or could) be posting the same articles multiple times, each time under a different title, whenever we each decide that the content warrants the title change? Or does one have to be a "former award-winning journalist" to be entitled to such cowboy editorializing? I don't mean this as a flame (there'll be others, I suspect), just a counterargument. There are good reasons for these FR policies and customs.
