Sean Gifford of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and an unidentified man in a cow-suit had planned a peaceful protest at the gates of the Grammar School to let pupils know about the claimed hazards in milk.
But they had to be rescued by two female police officers when the teenage pupils launched a violent protest of their own.
About 100 children, shouting "milk for the masses" and carrying banners, surrounded Mr Gifford and his "cow" partner and drenched them both in milk for about ten minutes. The police eventually intervened and escorted the PETA members back to their car.

My family physician has been just that for 23 years. He has examined each of my 4 kids since birth. My daughter is perfectly comfortable with him as am I. As a matter of fact she is the one who requested that he be the ONLY Dr that she see regarding her breasts. When she began menstruating earlier this year she was very frank in her questioning while visiting him for her checkup. I mean very frank. Funny you mentioned embarassment because he was quite taken aback that she was so well informed on the subject.
And, in his defense, he is not a moron either. I credit this man with saving my own life when I was 12 years old. He is the only one who recognized that the illness that I had was something other than a psychosomatic illness ( which the other morons here said it was something I conjured up simply because I didn't want to go to school ).
For example, bovine somatotropin ( growth hormone ) is given to dairy cattle to increase milk production. This hormone occurs naturally but is also given in a synthetic version as well. With the increased amount of BTS there is an increased risk of mastitis in the cattle. With this infection comes the treatments of antibiotics. Hmmm, could that be passed thru the milk?? Sure can and is.
Cattle are also given synthetic estrogens and progesterones to speed up maturity. Could this be passed on as well?? Sure can and is.
You don't have to be a leftist to conclude that when animals raised for human consumption are given these products that inevitably these same products are passed on to us through the meats and dairy products.
As for you never seeing these things added to the feed, you won't. It is injected.

Now, if you are referring to BEEF CATTLE, then that is a different situation entirely. Some farmers will put a timed-release hormone implant in a calf's ear (and THOSE hormones are the same kind as naturally occur in them anyway) so that it grows more uniformly and reaches the potential size norm FOR THAT BREED!!! And most of the breeds have been refined for a hundred years or more, to provide desirable characteristics depending on the intended use for that breed.
And before you start gasping over a timed-release hormone implant, then you should also be protesting the pregnancy contraceptive patches that women wear, too.
Your apocalyptic visions of Franken-cows the size of woolly mammoths who are full-grown by the time they are weaned COULD NOT BE MORE WRONG. Or hilarious for that matter.
Now, you also might be confusing referring to feedlot operations where cattle farmers will buy cows and steers who are nearly ready for slaughter, and they will 'finish them' on grain, so that they have a better taste, and other desirable qualities, but NOBODY is pumping hormones into cows who are nearly ready to be slaughtered.
It is the broiler CHICKEN operations that pump growth hormones into them and who grow them in inhumane conditions. Some of those operations are inexcusable, and are DIRECTLY the result of corporatizing animal husbandry, with the economies of scale that must be there to maximize profit.
Most cattle operations on the east coast are NOT like that (Cattle don't do well in those conditions). I believe the average herd size in the east, is around 150 head, but I haven't been keeping up with it. (lately)

I will agree with you about the anti-biotics being overused, but BGH isn't standard fare at most small cattle operations.
But, when YOU go the Dr. these days, most of them will immediately reach for anti-biotics as well. For some reason they are treated as a cure-all, to the point that some bodies of water have measureable traces of them, just from being over used in HUMANS.
We have raised cattle from birth, to grill, and also hogs, and the use of artificial growth inducing methods is NOT as widespread as some believe.
I can't speak for the mondo, humongous cattle operations out west, though.
That was my initial thoughts regarding bovine hormones.
But I have thought that the non-hormone certified milk tastes more rich.
Also a certain brand of milk (they do not use any hormones), Jilbert's, from my hometown area (say yah to da UP eh?) tastes much better to me than the milk we drink around here! I wonder why. Been meaning to call the dairy when I'm home and ask them. My sister hates it, says it tastes like grass.
