This shooting really shook me up last night. On Saturday afternoon, I stopped for gas at the (Exxon, I think) gas station on the other side of Route 50 from the Home Depot. I specifically chose that station because it was inside the beltway, and didn't have a straight and easy path to any of the interstates. I thought it would be too risky for the shooter to show up there. So much for that thought.

My girlfriend and I are shutting down for a few days. I'm riding the Metro to work, and we're going nowhere until we feel safe again. If there are a couple more shootings like this without catching the perp(s), they'll probably cancel the Marine Corp Marathon.

I know what you mean. i pumped my own gas friday AM, at 5:30 am in the dark and rain, at the Mobil at Lee Hwy and Graham Road and never gave the sniper a thought (1 mi. away from this site). Then Friday AM, the sniper shoots someone else at a gas station and last night it is right in my virtual front yard. i was grateful to see my husband had filled the tank with gas yesterday, when i got in the car this AM to go to work.

....the Marine Corp Marathon.

Oh, man, what a target! Hundreds of red shirts, all unarmed......and think of the propaganda value, if they shut down the race.

If the shooter(s) are smart, then they wouldn't dare mess with the Corps. Unarmed or not, dealing with hundreds of very pissed-off Marines is not generally a survivable experience.

This isn't aimed at you exclusively but I can't take it anymore.

Get a freaking grip

How many people died on the beltway yesterday? So the odds of dying via sniper are slightly higher than the odds you face everyday when you get in your car. Do you cower at home for fear of dying in a car wreck? I can't believe the level of fear I am seeing from the area.

We have to grow a collective spine or we won't deserve freedom.

What the hell has happened to the people in this country?

I'm riding the Metro to work.

I've also been worried that more people will do this, thus making the public transportation systems a more attractive target for terrorism. Think about it. I know you all are in a bad situation. I'm several hours away and also get concerned. However, I think we have to go about our lives b/c this person(s) changes MO's to accommodate the changes we make. Be careful, but live your life!
