Bush 'Sick' About Sniper Attacks

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush (news - web sites) said Monday he is sickened by a two-week deadly sniper spree and worried about Washington-area citizens still gripped by fear with the gunman on the loose.

"I'm just sick — sick to my stomach — to think that there is a cold-blooded killer at home taking innocent life," Bush told reporters on the South Lawn of the White House before he left for a trip to Michigan. "The idea of moms taking their kids to school and sheltering them from a potential sniper attack is not the America that I know."

While saying the White House has "no evidence one way or the other" on whether terrorists committed the seemingly random shootings that have killed eight people and injured two more since Oct. 2, Bush nonetheless called the attacks "a form of terrorism."

"Any time anybody is randomly shooting, randomly killing, randomly taking life, it's cold-blooded murder, and it's, you know, it's a sick mind that obviously loves terrorizing society," the president said.

Bush, who receives updates on the shootings during his daily FBI (news - web sites) briefing, pledged continued help from the federal government in the multiagency investigation. The administration has asked federal law enforcement officers to give all the assistance they can to local police who are immersed in the hunt for the gunman.

"We'll do everything we can to capture whoever that might be and bring him to justice," Bush said.

Bush appeared haunted by the image of frightened parents ushering their children to school in the hope that would keep them safer.

A 13-year-old boy shot last Monday as he was dropped off at school in Bowie, Md., remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition as Bush spoke.

"I pray for the families who grieve and suffer, and I worry about a society where moms can't take their kids to school," Bush said. "It's obviously a terrible, terrible situation."

At least the press didn't report that he was "furious".

That seems to be their standard quote for Mr. Bush.

Or outraged!!! (oh no that's dasshole).

I am sure Bush is sickened by all this and there really isn't anything he can do about it. He must feel so helpless like we all do. The law inforcement needs to bring in help from major cities who have delt with serial murderers and/or snipers before. These guys don't have a clue as to what to do.

Apparently he's not sick enough to demand the Bill of Rights be respected in DC and Maryland.

The President, as the most powerful man in the world should be, is far from helpless . We can all help, though, by keeping an eye out. One of these times a citizen will spot the sniper and the sniper will be run down and beaten into stewmeat with umbrellas and briefcases.

Actually, there is. He could covertly deploy JSTARS aircraft to the area, and have them wait until another attack occurs. When it does, simply track every single vehicle within 1500 yards of the shooting to their destinations, or have the police stop them one by one if a more immediate need to capture the terrorists is desired. Unless the sniper is using some terrain avoidance strategy (travelling on foot via a sewer or drainage system, etc), capturing him with this method would be almost trivial.

He's not helpless, he prays. How thankful I am to have a praying President and one who will bring to bear all resources to find this murderer.

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." 2Tim. 1:7 Remember to pray with the President for the families of the victims, for safety for the populace, and for the heroes who are searching even now for this one who would bring destruction.

Is he also sick about the murder and wounding of Border Patrol agents on the Mexican border? Haven't heard a word from him about that.

NOT GOOD. Reminscent of Jimmy Carter's agonizing over the hostages.

Express sympathy and determination, MR. Bush.

Let Oprah do the emoting.
