CNN has 70+ active bureaus worldwide, including New York. I know, however, if FOX can't work as quickly as CNN in NYC, it seems there is a problem....anyway, compared to what's happening in Maryland..a few minutes here or there are certainly not a big deal

This could have just been somebody slamming the lid on a dumpster and with all the angst in the area someone dialed 911. With all these extra 911 calls, people who need fire Engines or Ambulances can't get through. With something like 6 or 7 hotline numbers who can keep track if they don't have FR?
There are people in DC, who don't have access to FR, that call 911 to find out if they caught the sniper yet.

I recall Rita Cosby attempting to interpret the SC ruling just as it had been releaseed and she basically called it for Gore. I was freaking and am afraid she has never regained my respect.

CNN just brought it up again, said they're not going anywhere with the story because they have been unable to confirm it even has happened so far.

I have a bad feeling we are going to be under Marshal Law soon...Better than being under Marshall Dillon.

Did Geraldo coin the name for this killer ''The Beltway Sniper''?

Actually, whether deliberately or accidentally, the first definite incident in this series of shootings did miss people. The shooter targeted a building window. There was an incident in early September that is being investigated as possibly the first in this string of sniper attacks. The victim was a man who survived.

This shooting case is a good example of hasty reporting....CNN would report anything for a rating.

Fredericksburg, Manassas, Spoysylvania ,... is this guy doing a Civil War Battle tour?
To: ZinGirl
I'd second that. It has a lot going for it. Smip!

I think Spottsylvania's our guy...MUD

Well, Bowie isn't near any Civil War battles at all;
ONLY thing nearby was the Battle of Bladensburg in the War of 1812, probably the most humiliating defeat ever suffered by American arms in history; we attempted to block the British who had landed from ships from marching to DC, and our entire army (Except for a tiny contingent of Marines) broke and ran away, and the British burned DC.

It's very reminiscent of the white powder scares, and even the crazy reports on 9/11 of a bomb going off at the State Department and nine more hijacked planes.
In addition to false alarms (which this appears to be), you have the general background shootings that make DC famous.
It's completely understandable and predictable that this would happen, especially since the real sniper attacks are continuing.
I'm thankful that we're not seeing copycat crimes across the country. It's bad enough that we have one major metropolitan area hyperventilating.

The debate on FR Debate? Seems like mass speculation to me, since nobody has a clue.

Geraldo on Fox....talking to truck driver who was fairly close to the Gas Station shooting earlier. Driver said a maid at a motel said a van with a woman driver, driving erratically, as though not knowing which way to go, sped away.
To: shadeaud
Did Geraldo coin the name for this killer ''The Beltway Sniper''Are you kidding? Geraldo hasn't had an original idea in thirty years.
Beltway Sniper, and all other clever and witty sayings and appellations, are coined right here on FR, and then stolen by the talking heads and their staffs.
