NEWSFLASH: Another shooting, approx. 9 AM, this time near Fredericksburg

I work in a newsroom in Fredericksburg, and they heard on the police scanner that a person has been shot at a gas station at "Four Mile Fork" which is a neighborhood just south of the City of Fredericksburg.

No details yet, but I wanted to let y'all know -- and keep up the tradition of FReepers getting news first.

Pray for the victim, and pray that this is a random shooting, and that this monster's terror has not widened yet again.

Startled me a bit, too. EBS interupped the WTOP anchor in a tense moment - mid stroke - for a flash flood warning. Actually, it's the first time I've ever seen EBS in a non testing situation. Here in Pittsburgh, they don't even actvate it for tornados.

Just an odd thought, but it seems curious that a common thread to most of the shootings are at gas stations

It also makes the person very a vulnerable target escpecially while holding the pump and even if walking to/from store his direction is predictible.

So, the gas station's security camera would only catch the victime being killed, while the perp (who could be as far away as a mile) would not appear on camera.

No way. A .223 in inclement weathor is good for maybe 500 yards in expert hands. Probably more in the 200-300 yard range, given the poor visibility.

The weather may also account for the wounding of the victim, rather than his death. If this IS the sniper, he screwed up - he had to get too dang close to the victim to be effective.

Also, this "sniper" isn't in the same class as serious military snipers - wrong caliber, too close, etc. He's too good for the public's safety, but don't believe he can hit from a mile away.

If the shootings were only at gas stations, I'd agree with you. But how do you factor in the other shootings?

Either there's some weird psychopath on the loose, or there is some foreign terrorist element at play ("I am God" notwithstanding).
