I work in a newsroom in Fredericksburg, and they heard on the police scanner that a person has been shot at a gas station at "Four Mile Fork" which is a neighborhood just south of the City of Fredericksburg.
No details yet, but I wanted to let y'all know -- and keep up the tradition of FReepers getting news first.
Pray for the victim, and pray that this is a random shooting, and that this monster's terror has not widened yet again.

Perhaps it takes a sniper to kill a sniper. In the Carlos Hathcock way. Was just listening to FNC and Cavuto was talking to David Hackworth and Hackworth said the exact same thing. It takes a sniper to get a sniper.

"And what's with the ski mask? Is it to keep hair out of the eyes?I guess the ski mask keeps them anonymous...they may work undercover at times and it would be best for them to not broadcast their faces in public.

I've seen that patch for years. My dad wore it in WWII.

I have one sis who is a little more fatalistic about it and the other is a worrier (me, too). She called my nephew to warn him days ago and he gave her one of those "yeah, Ok, mom, whatever you say" type of responses. I think he probably knows the severity of this now.
It's strange, though. You'd be surprised at how many people probably don't even know this is going on. One of the dental techs (my kids had an appt. today) didn't even know about the shootings and had heard nothing! Said she works late.
Some people live in caves, I guess. Makes me thankful for everybody here.

Just because environmentalists have a cause doesn't mean they can't (and aren't) hypocrites. Think about all the books printed by environmentalists. A lot of trees died for those books. There are many more examples. But I agree, it's probably not an environmental wacko. I'm not so sure about ruling out Muslim terrorist, however.

My husband's grandma is 94, just lost his grandpa this yr. Also 94. They had been married 73 years. And he died from an accident. We always said about them, "they're getting older" not "they're old" cause they were always so active. :)

Forgot to mention that Hackworth said he thought this was domestic, not imported.

The story is exploding in the world press. I have seen top stories of it in Japan for example, in the Japanese language, complete with maps, graphics, the same photos of fed agents with submachine guns standing on Interstate 95 in the capital today, etc. This thing has legs for sure.

"Is it to keeps hair out of his eyes?" LOL
Now I know what to do between haircuts when my bangs are in my face and driving me crazy! (No, I don't like barrettes).

that should say "can't BE (and aren't)"

Yeah, I suppose they would have short hair, and no need of ski masks to keep it out of their eyes. Maybe it helps cut down on reflection of the sun off the skin below the eyes, as well. You've no doubt seen baseball players with the black stuff (not sure what it's called) under their eyes during outdoor sunny day games.

Hmmm.....I could think of a few ;o)

Governor Warner is on Channel 9 TV and he said many things. He did say one interesting thing -
He's received many briefings and foreign terrorism was never mentioned.

Yes, age is just a number.
I say a little prayer for all of you in that area each day, and pray that God helps the police to catch the shooter.
Best to you and yours!

I used to work in law enforcement. Whenever there was an operation that required additional manpower, and that manpower came from sectors of the LEA, that had agents that normally worked undercover (DEA, CIA, FBI special task forces) then those agents always wear the black head coverings so as to protect their identity. Nothing more. I would assume that with an operation that has reached the magnitude of this one, they are bringing in everyone they can, including undercover agents. So you will be seeing a lot of this for the duration of this operation.

How many civilians have heard both a rifle shot and a pistol shot aimed in their general direction? How do you tell the difference?I've never been on the receiving end of pistol fire, but semiautomatic rifle fire sounds like, to me, crack-THUD. Drop a bag of potatoes on a wood floor after throwing a paper snap firework down. The crack is the sonic boom of the bullet passing, and the THUD is the sound of the rifle mechanism.

Why would enviromentalist wackos kill people. Makes no sense, but they do. Why would they rather see African children starve to death rather than eat American-grown food. Beats me, but it's true.

I couldn't tell you, because the only sound that I can remember is the sound of my bowels emptying into may shorts.

. . .a sniper to kill a sniper . ."Let loose the Quantico boys.

I was just relaying what his thoughts were. I understand what you are saying. Mine was the 60's and 70's. All I remember was watching the Viet Nam War on TV every night. It didn't scare me, though. It was too far away. I still remember the Olympic athles murdered and watching that, but that was also far away.
Maybe he means it's more scary because the attacks are right here. But I agree with you. Every generation is going to have to deal with something. I don't know about the 80's though. I'd have to think about them!
Which years were yours?
