NEWSFLASH: Another shooting, approx. 9 AM, this time near Fredericksburg
The Free Lance-Star ^ | now | Jim Lakely

Posted on 10/11/2002 6:54:58 AM PDT by seamus

I work in a newsroom in Fredericksburg, and they heard on the police scanner that a person has been shot at a gas station at "Four Mile Fork" which is a neighborhood just south of the City of Fredericksburg.

No details yet, but I wanted to let y'all know -- and keep up the tradition of FReepers getting news first.

Pray for the victim, and pray that this is a random shooting, and that this monster's terror has not widened yet again.

Let's hope the shots at the elementary school is a false report. There is something so evil about targeting children, much worse then adults.

I was thinking and typing at same time so fast a few minutes ago (kind of like walking and chewing gum?) and probably didn't make sense. I was referring to my sister and never mentioned her!

"We're asking everyone who lives in metro area or has family in area to go to our prayer thread and sign on so we can pray for you."

Huh? You're only praying for those that go to that thread or your prayers don't go beyond the internet? What gives?

I'm just wondering how the guy knows to be so illusive.

He seems like he's in control, not afraid, has a plan, and must be local.

My biggest fear, that it'll start happening in other states.

I heard about a possible school shooting..and my heart skipped a beat until sheppard smith said it was a false alarm.

I'll be back later tonight..have tons of things to do with my kids.

Crud. How did I know it would not be good? :- )

(Not that I have the least idea of how far 3 meters are)

Uhh, Murphy's Law, maybe? (smile) A high-gain Yagi antenna needs to be roughly one half of a wavelength across, and a few (four to eight) wavelengths long. Three meters roughly corresponds to nine feet, nine inches. That's roughly a half-wave of Channel 2, and that's the antenna size across. Lengthwise, it'd be on the order of 24 meters, or, 78 feet long...

All the other channels are about 59 miles away (6, 9, 18, 21, 24, 35, 56, 65).

Oh, well, a high-gain for Channel 65 would only be 19 centimeters (seven inches) wide by 154 centimeters (60 inches) long. That's easy.

Brian Williams just noted interesting fact...shootings at gas stations have been at like, 4-5 different companies...Exxon, Sonoco, Mobile, etc.

A ME connection? This whole filling station thing is pretty bizaar.

I think that is 4 at gas stations, and that at gas stations the victim is standing still when pumping gas. I think its the standing still that is what matters.

The shooter started may have decided to stick with gast stations because of the standing still, and often times gas stations are near busy highways, or interchanges.

Easy victim, easy escape?

"For those thinking only old people have been kiiled, one woman was 25, not exactly old."

None of these people were really old.
Victims were:

3 men in their 50's.
Women were 25, 34,43 (the wounded woman, my age)
One man was 39 and the man today was 40. And we know the wounded boy was 13.
The only older person killed was about 72.
As I get older, OLD is mid 80's and 90's! :)

He seems like he's in control, not afraid, has a plan, and must be local.

This is a well-thought-out, professionally planned and extremely disciplined operation. Probably in the planning stages for months. There may be two teams involved. AQ Operatives map out their plans, take photographs and do preliminary security surveillance. They usually live and blend into the target area -- they have meetings in apartments and plan their mission.

No, we're praying for everyone in the metro area but so many people here have said they live in the area or have family there we wanted to be able to pray for them specifically.

For example,"my parents are there, my brother is there, they live in ___". It's so we can pray specifically.

Have you never heard of prayer chains, etc?
Anyway, THAT's what gives. :)
