I work in a newsroom in Fredericksburg, and they heard on the police scanner that a person has been shot at a gas station at "Four Mile Fork" which is a neighborhood just south of the City of Fredericksburg.
No details yet, but I wanted to let y'all know -- and keep up the tradition of FReepers getting news first.
Pray for the victim, and pray that this is a random shooting, and that this monster's terror has not widened yet again.

"a brass brush"Brass is softer than steel. It's used, because it won't scratch. Polishing powder, or compound is used. Some ammonia containing bore cleaners will pit the metal enough to change the characteristics. That kind of solvent will likely ruin the barrel though in the wrong hands.

Good work. The spelling-out of "mister" in "Dear Mister Policeman" kind of hints to someone with a juvenile mind (even if they are an adult). It's almost like they've never written a letter (or read many) that uses the abbrev. "Mr."

I did a search and couldn't find this bit about the traffic light and the sound of the shot...

[Re #898]Certainly not. That soldier is trusted with a magazine in his weapon.

The vehicle (white van) was going south on Rt. 1. None of the businesses (except the Exxon) have been closed. No video cameras at the Exxon station.

YIKES! you guys - you have to read this (excertp follows)
You okay Brandaman?" asked Knuckles, patting the young private on he back. "What's this?" inquired Rusty as he leant down. Rusty had spotted something, looked like a shell casing from a fired round. but somewhat different. The casing was smaller than your average round, and looked sort-of "home-made" like the back-end of a tagger round. Still warm too.
Knucks looks up to notice a playing card pinned to a tree by a small knife, it was an old tarot card with the grim reaper handing some poor guy a card, with the words "Traitor" written underneath.
Brandaman shivered.
"This is just like the one in the shack... who is this guy?" Knucks thought to himself) "Looks like we've got another player in the game, eh Rusty?" said Knucks.
"Yep!" Rusty replied.
"Brandaman, you know something! What is it?"
"I cant... he'll kill....".
"I'll kill you if you don't tell us... now who is it?!" shouted Knucks.
"Okay." Brandaman said, sitting down. "Its a guy named ~Outlaw~, calls himself ~The Reaper~, He was one of the ops of the original force in the north-east sector, top sniper he was, before they were attacked... we found this out just before we ran into the ambush set by Shadow and his men"
Knuckles and Rusty listened patiently whilst Brandaman explain all, the horror, the fear. He explained that Outlaw was the best hope for defense in the north-east sector should it be attacked, it was said he could shoot a hole through a spinning penny at 150 feet whilst still in the air... quite an achievement.
Rusty narrowed his eyes "So then what?" he asked.
Brandaman went on to explain how Outlaw got his name, during Nam he was known for raiding the battlefield for spoils and trophies during a fight. Calling himself the ~Reaper~ because of his cold killing and ruthlessness. This guy had a bigger war crimes list than what could fill a phone book!
Brandaman explained how when in Nam, he was captured and subject to some violent torture, before relief troops could rescue him and his fellow POWs. He explained how this left Outlaw slightly unhinged from reality, believing entirely that he is actually the "Grim Reaper" and acting accordingly, no matter who the victim was... Looks like this guy was some sort of double agent, responsible for the fall on the northeast sector.

"I think Armalite invented the origional. - Crowcreek
Eugene Stoner invented the original... Tried to market it in the U.S. and got no takers (at first.) Fairchild's Armalite division (U.K.) expressed and interest and then Colt decided to take a look at it...

It might not be a .223 at all.
Someone on FR mentioned that most .22 rounds will not fragment like the ones LE have recoverd when fired from a .223 into a target over 200 yards. A .22-250, or other higher velocity-higher powered CIVILIAN versions will.

Absentminded and klutzy creatures make GREAT targets for criminals...(I am not suggesting you should be a target)
I once saw a woman driving a white SUV, brand new 2002...Lincoln...with a handgun with the international red circle with the slash through to insinuate she was ANTI-HANDGUN...what a blithering DITZ...driving around Houston basically BEGGING for someone to assualt, rape or kill her...what a dumbass that driver had to be...

Thanks.
I knew military had that type of technology but didn't expect ordinary LEO departments to have it. Glad to know they have the tools they need for this stuff, because I think it's just beginning. I expect it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

Hope it catches these sick ducks. Now you see why this type of info peaked my interest. The more you look at thier games and the profile of the sniper it gets pretty wierd.
To: SarahW
You know what? Every chance I get, I go player sniper against my kids. We have half a dozen paintball guns and it is a heck of a lot of fun.
You can read all sorts of "sniping" tips in any paint magazine as well as find disturbing messages on BBSs. However, that doesn't mean everyone who posts such stuff is likely to go out and shoot someone. Sheesh, give it up already!
To: md2576
Lordy, if that's not a clue, I don't know what is.
