Can you remind us young folks what's the deal with Van Buren?

It generally takes years to get recognized by the Noble Prize committe (the one winner I knew, in physics, said he was awarded for work he'd done about 20 years before) So, maybe the Slickster will get his about 2020--at which time everyone will have forgotten how horrible he was and just remember how he "felt our pain!" (sarcasm)

Not true for the science prizes......they are often awarded on the basis of recent breakthroughs in their particular field.

He was not too good a man. He was too arrogant a man. He had a phd in nuclear engineering and he acted like a know it all engineer. (like those professors students avoid like the plauge unles you have to have a specific class) He used to arrange the White House Tennis court scheduel personally. He was not just hands on, he was hands all over the place. Bill clinton may define what is wrong with modern democrats but Carter defines what is wrong with old guard democrats.
The old comment was he is a better ex pres than he was president. Given his useful idiot status with his trip to cuba, I doubt that. He was used to help kill the democracy petition in cuba.
Carter winning the nobel prize is not national pride it is national embarassment.

Jimmy Carter was one of our worst presidents, but was probably one of our greatests Americans.Say what you will,he did not have leadership qualities, but he is humane and a good man. I respectfully disagree. Jimmy Carter is a friend of tyrants and terrorists, and an enemy of America.

Consider that some of the recent prizes have been awarded to people who were frauds.......I put this award in that same category.
It was merely an opportunity to give the award to someone clearly anti-Bush......

I didn't say he should have won it. I think it was a mistake as well. He just seemed like a good man that wanted to help people but didn't know how best to do it. In doing it his way, yes he royally screwed up most of the time

Too bad Neville Chamberline is not around any more to win the award. By his policy of appeasing Egypt, Carter lost a great opportunity to defeat and occupy this most populous Arab country. Also by his policy of supporting human rights in Soviet block countries Carter undermined the healthy Cold War policies.

Say what you will, . . . but he is humane and a good man.Yes, and he gives every indication that he thinks so too.
One of the most annoying things about Carter is how aggressively he has sought the adulation of the world for his "goodness" while piously wearing his supposed Christianity on his sleeve. He comes off as one of the most proud humble public figures of our generation.
So the world has rewarded him, applauded him, and pronounced him "good." Judging from a Christian perspective, I'm not sure he has really achieved anything at all. After all, his putuative Lord was denounced, condemned, scourged, and crucified as a common criminal by the same world. Somehow I don't believe the world's judgment has improved over 2000 years.
But Jimmy Carter's judgment at the throne of God is all that will matter in the long run. He's on his own there. Neither you, nor I, nor the Nobel Prize Committee will have any influence at that judgment. We'll have our own judgments to contend with.

What do you expect from an organization that has named Yassir Arafat and "Coffee Hey-man (along with that global band of idiots, the "Untried Matrons")???

This is a prelude to substitution in the 2004 Presidential elections. The new democRat tack will be to nominate Carter in any democRat owned state(read that has a State Dumbpreme court packed with the likes of Floriduh's and the cow state's) that the primary democRat is losing badly. At the State Dumbpreme court they will bring up the two party canard and win the decision.

By his policy of appeasing Egypt, Carter lost a great opportunity to defeat and occupy this most populous Arab country. Also by his policy of supporting human rights in Soviet block countries Carter undermined the healthy Cold War policies. Yes, and the Soviet Union just fell apart on its own. And yes, Saddam is now agreeing to arms inspection because he is afraid Carter might get re-elected. It is just a coincidence that Saddam always caves more when Bush moves one step closer to a possible attack.

Dear Nobel Peace Prize Selection Committee,
Hey! What about me and my good friend Adolf?
Very best regards,
Arthur Neville "Peace in Our Time" Chamberlain

Champion the cause of appeasement and capitulation, and look what it gets you!
To: Robert_Paulson2
Ex-Pres is a nice peaceful man. He is a bad leader, and a pacifist. Therefore, he deserve the peace price.
To: eastforker
Carter is a leftwing POS who has recently had his head stuck up Castro's *rse. He is a despicable American.
