Just a side note on the child who was shot. This may have already been mentioned on MD's local news but my local talk radio is saying he was not allowed on the bus and had to be driven because he had candy. Mentioned "zero tolerance" (which he said means "zero intelligence"). Bus driver told aunt he couldn't ride on bus. Anyone else heard this?

Yes, USA Today had a similar article that said the schoolboy who was shot had been kicked off the bus recently for eating on the bus, which is not permitted. Neighbors and friends said he was a very good kid.

That's what I read, also...Candy is a problem?? Some folks are idiots.
Confiscate the candy (if it bothers you so much) and get the kid to school safely. THAT's WHAT YOUR JOB IS!!!! and these people pay the taxes that pay your salary and are entitled to the bus service.
