Good point on the "crypto-Jews." However, it seems as though the evidence for crypto-Jews in Mexico/New Mexico may not be as good as it once looked:

Would 16th century Spanish crypto-Jews have known anything about the Paleohebrew alphabet?

It's not out of the question. They would have had to develop some kind of secret communication that would not be detected by the Inquisition, and the crypto-Jews, being cut off from the mainstream Jewish community, retained some customs and habits discarded by modern Jews.

What would move ancient religious Jews (who cared about the Ten Commandments) to hop in a boat and sail for months over uncharted oceans to parts unknown where they would have no reason to expect ever to see their sacred ancestral land -- let alone any land -- again?

Revelation?

I expect they knew where they were going and how to get there before they left land. (...and how to get back.)

Oh, you know, just a little updating. More roomy kitchen, space for a microwave oven, and a walk in closet and whirlpool bath in the master bedroom. Oh, and getting rid of the old 70's wallpaper.

Really? What was Peter doing when he met Jesus?

Figure out a way to get blown in a boat from the Sea of Galilee to New Mexico, and I'll throw in the towel.

>Yes, but the Egyptians had boats. The Jews didn't.

To this point only, there is evidence that some members of the Tribes of Dan, Asher and Judah left Egypt early, prior to the overland Exodus. (Of course they were Israelites, not Jews, but I presume this is the time frame you were suggesting.)

Depends on what it says. If it says "Mexicans go home" then it is a fact ;-)

Noah son Shem

The Hebrew language is one of a family called the Semitic languages (spoken by the descendants of Shem, the son of Noah). It was probably learned by Abraham after his settlement in Canaan and adopted by him in place of the Aramaic of his earlier years. It was spoken by all Israelites until after the return from captivity. About the 4th century B.C. it began to be replaced by what is called Western Aramaic. Hebrew remained the language of the learned, of the law, and of religious literature; but in the time of our Lord Aramaic was the language of ordinary intercourse.

Yes, I know that, but I thought the initial question had to do with boats.  Are you inferring that Noah was Jewish ?????

I am saying the knowledge was past down into the family, after all it seems the first time a boat was mention was with Noah and his children so the history of shem and his children.

Shem was the traditional ancestor of the Shemitic or Semitic races, i.e., a group of kindred nations, which includes the Arabs, the Hebrews and Phoenicians, the Aramaeans or Syrians, the Babylonians and Assyrians.

ABRAHAM is a shemite, ISAAC is an shemite, Jacob is an shemite, Judah is an shemite/jewish, Moses is an Shemite/Israelite!

Yes Jews are of the line of the shemites!

That was NEVER the question. The question remains, are you saying NOAH was a JEW?
