It's 6:30 a.m. EST and we're waiting to go to the second press conference providing media and local updates on the Maryland sniper shootings. To date, the 13 year old boy has survived the evening and seems to be improving. Fox News mentioned that his aunt is a nurse. The police briefing at 6:15 a.m. mentioned Todd Beamer's Let's Roll comment and police are urging people to use caution, good judgment, but remain strong and try to continue with everyday life as much as possible.
Police had a search warrant last night (didn't say for who or where) related to the sniper shootings, but the search did not provide any information to LEO.

When I heard about the book, a few things came to mind. I can't escape the feeling that there's a Tom Clancy plot involved. (As was the case for the 9/11 attacks.) This case has a disturbing similarity to "Without Remorse."

Or in the mayor's office. Patrice Lumumba Ford was interning in Portland Mayor Vera Katz's office. I wonder if Duncan's and Moose's offices have interns.

Nothing demented about your observations. We aren't ready in this country for what lies ahead, and until we have another attack AND our federal officials level with us, we won't be ready.

Then that could only mean that maybe he is a former soldier. But they were mentioning that with the gun that this guy used he doesn't need to be a marksman because of the telescopic site.

Just in case some Freeper or lurker bags the prep/perps. Remember, you need to keep Abu alive. And that means the bleeding must be stopped.
I would recommend pouring bacon grease into the wound, that would plug up the holes and possibly cauterize some blood vessels. If not, bumber.
Remember, these guys tend to sodomize each other, so there might be some rectal bleeding...so bring a funnel and rubber gloves.

When I say two shots, I mean two shots, two kills. They wouldn't be shooting at the same person, they'd shoot a two different ones. And these are not "drive-by" shootings, these shots are well placed, from a long distance. This CANNOT be done from a moving vehicle.
Oh, and I also believe it is almost as dangerous to blame this on video games, as blame it on guns. Guns don't kill people, even video games don't kill people, people kill people. Just my two cents.....

Apparently you discount the training manuals found in Afghanistan as insignificant. I do not.I'm with you on this one Jane. Here is an article everyone should read:
A Military Assessment of the Al Qaeda Training Tapes
Although its conclusion focuses on the more familiar-sounding terrorist tactics, it includes a few hints that these thugs also considered this type of "warfare."

There's an article about the internment of the Japanese in the current Chronicles magazine. Apparently Magic intercepts (our decryption program of Japanese messages) showed that many Japanese in this country were cooperating with Japanese intelligence. (The article doesn't list published sources -- does anybody know if these intercepts are published some place? I'd like to like at them, particularly with reference to what they tell us about Pearl Harbor.) In any case, this is the first I've seen of this. The American public certainly wasn't told this at the time. And the internment of the Japanese nevertheless had great popular support.

They were never caught even with all the cell phones on the road.Good grief!

Whitman had a brain tumor, recognized his compulsion as abnormal, and was in the care of a psychiatrist prior to the shooting. I was taking abnormal psych at the time of the Texas towerr shootings, and my prof, who worked at a local mental hospital, said the psychiatric community closed ranks to protect the doctor (and themselves) from charges of incompetence.

Phone book? :) This is getting serious, if this guy isn't him, they have started searches of people that have no ties to the crime what so ever. I'm sure many won't get their guns back or will have to fight tooth and nail to do so. f this isn't him, it's the beginning of a large shakedown. :( This is EXACTLY the desired effect. THINK ABOUT IT! The terrorists are trying to convince you
1. that you cannot be safe anywhere
2. the police cannot protect you
3. the police are draconian and are out to get you.
with this line of thought, you shold consider reading the Quran now, because you can't have it both ways. You want to be safe and snuggly with your guns in your home and at the same time have the police go out and hunt down the bad guys and "off them" which way do you want it because there is NO middle ground here.

My prediction: Next targets include Police, Firefighters, babes in arms (a twofer if they also get the mom), and puppies.
If it's Møøse Limb terrorists, they WANT us insanely angry...
To: Trident/Delta
2. the police cannot protect youI will agree with that.
To: dasher
If it just stops, it points more toward a home grown wacko since a terrorist would be more likely to move to a new location.Agreed. And if it's moved to a different location and copycat is ruled out, it'll definitively exclude the older teens theory. I do hope however that this isn't a new terrorist phase even though I understand the media would have a ball over it if it isn't, which makes me sick. Just the idea of it is unbearable... But the alternative is even more unbearable...

Nice analysis, especially regarding making law enforcement look ineffectual. I too agree that this is the work of Islamic terrorists and it is just the beginning.
An idea -
With all the government assets in this part of the country, what are the chances of reviewing satellite imagery in an attempt to identify fleeing vehicles near the shooting scenes? If it's not possible to review past scenes, could this straegy be used now (especially since the Feds are now involed)?

Not catching the shooter doesn't mean the LEO's aren't good either - this guy just may be better. Okay.
I'd just rather the people involved be judged on what they have done or not done, rather than on their race.
Imo, this shooter (or shooters) is not going to be easy to catch by anyone. We all need to pitch in an go after this a-hole.

Interesting re Japanese intercepts of people in this country cooperating with the Japanese. We have never been told this, to my knowledge. And to think after 9/11, there was talk about how we mustn't mis-treat the Muslim community in America the way we "mis-treated" the Japanese. War is hell, and everybody pays in some way or other. Besides, we haven't exactly heard a lot of outrage about how their religion has been "hijacked" from the Muslim community living here. They need to get on board.
