Depends. A few years ago, when Charles Moose was police chief of Portland, Oregon, a white man in a vehicle stopped at a traffic light late at night was shot to death by black gang members. Probably an initiation, kill a white man and you're a member of the gang.
Moose refused to call it a hate crime. Considering the fact it was a black on white crime, his decision was not a popular choice with the majority living inside the Tri County area. The perps were never arrested.
Will he let the Feds have it? My guess is that if it looks as though it is terrorist related - attacks at malls and schools have been mentioned in past missives from Al Qaeda - then he would let it go.
But if the perp is a white guy, no.
I heard a conservative radio host speculate today that the shooter could be a white-supremacist militia member. The Maryland woods are full of Those People, don't you know. Hicks with gun racks on pickup trucks, camouflage clothes. The Left no longer has to bother putting their spin on the news, we now have conservatives doing it for them.
