CSGV Statement on Sniper Shootings in DC Metropolitan Area

The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence extends its sympathies to the recent shooting victims and their families in the Washington, DC region. These sniper shootings have shattered our community's sense of well-being and safety. We live here, and like everyone else in this region, we are hoping the police will quickly capture the shooter.

We do not know exactly the type of gun used in the shooting, nor do we know how the shooter obtained the gun. However, we do know that there are tools that could potentially help law enforcement quickly catch the shooter. For example, Maryland has recently started keeping ballistic information on all guns sold in Maryland. This program allows law enforcement to match a bullet to the firearm from which it was fired. This program should be expanded to the rest of the country. In addition, firearm registration would allow law enforcement to quickly match a firearm to its legal owner.

Close to 30,000 Americans are killed with guns every year. This loss of life wrecks families, relationships, and diminishes our country. To counter this annual carnage, we must courageously and directly address the widespread, easy availability of firearms in our society.

Michael Beard, President

Close to 50,000 lives are lost on the nation's hiways annually.
Nearly half of these deaths involve the abuse of alcohol. Let's register all alcohol consumers and ban vehicles...Remember, it's for the children.

The bad guys will have always have their guns. . .and the good people will not abuse theirs. . .

This is so simple. . .

This is simply what happens when an Islamic terrorist with a gun moves about freely amongst the UNARMED sheep.

Of course, they're pumping up the numbers of deaths by including any firearms suicide or negligent discharge death.

Too bad that Maryland's questionable policy has not solved one crime.

So far the police are using traditional markings on the bullet to match it too the other shootings.

Marylands program collects shell casings, which have not been proven to be matchable.

These maggots from CSGV couldn't wait to jump on this.

I'm sure they are salivating at the prospect that it's a NRA member who bought his weapon at a gun show.

How come no one is saying the T word? Terrorist.

Oh Boy! I knew this was what this sniper thing was all about. I predicted yesterday they will never catch the culprit, but we will see some new gun restrictions as a result.

Well, it's to be expected. They're propagandists. The problem is, this is ready-made propaganda for them.

This type of situation is gun owners' worst problem. Even an armed militia isn't an obvious solution. The guy is careful enough that nobody's fixed his position during the crimes, much less gotten within range to return fire.

Somehow - and as I said in an earlier posting, I don't have ready answers - gun owners need to develop proactive solutions to this kind of situation, or the soccer mommies and office-park daddies are going to vote for whatever tyranny is necessary to give them the illusion of security, in their mindless rush to "Do Something".

Watch for calls for

- registration/permits to purchase "sniper ammunition" (defined as any ammunition over .22 calibre);

- reigistration/permits to purchase rifle scopes

- reigistration/permits to purchase "sniper rifles" (defined as any non-single shot rifle over .22 calibre)

- renewed and louder calls for licensing and registration of ALL firearms owners

___

feel free to add your own...these are the ones that jump out at me as related to these Sniper Shootings and therefore easier to get passed while emotions are high

Hopefully this will be a wake up call for the hunters who think they've been 'safe' because Hillary a duck hunter.

A few million more in the tills of the NRA and GOA couldn't hurt.

Be Strong, be safe.

You can't ban alcohol, remember the Kennedy dynasty is built on moonshining during prohibition : >

I was surprised to see ABC News at 11:00 last night include a segment at a range in Chantilly, interviewing gun owners who spoke of the need for self-defense and pointed out that typical gun owners are responsible citizens.
