New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd was on the hot seat Monday morning for a paragraph buried deep in her Sunday column where she seemed to blame "influential Jewish conservatives" for persuading President Bush to go to war in Iraq.
"Influential Jewish conservatives inside and outside the administration have been fierce in supporting a war on Saddam, thinking it could help Israel by scrambling the Middle East map and encouraging democracy," contended the Irish Catholic liberal.
Dowd's suggestion that Jews in the Bush administration were putting Israel's interests over the U.S.'s raised eyebrows on the "Imus in the Morning" program.
Asked about the Times columnist's "influential Jewish conservatives" reference, Newsweek's Howard Fineman, a Dowd soulmate, insisted, "Maureen Dowd doesn't have an anti-Semitic bone in her body."
But moments later, when NBC Pentagon reporter Jim Miklaszewski was asked to explain what he thought Dowd meant by the remark, he said she was talking about a "what many would call a cabal within the administration."
IMUS: Who are these Jews 'Mo' Dowd's referring to as influencing Bush on the war? Wolfowitz? Richard Perle? Who?
MIKLASZEWSKI: Well, certainly there's that - what many would call a cabal within the administration - of not only those who are very much in favor of going into Iraq and removing Saddam Hussein a la an invasion - and one of the strongest voices within the administration, of course, is Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz. (End of Excerpt)
In the next breath, however, Miklaszewski suggested that it was wrong to single out Bush administration Jews for supporting that war, reminding Imus, "But, you know, Secretary Rumsfeld is clearly part of that crowd too, as is Vice President Dick Cheney."
Anyhow, the rise of vocal anti-Jewish sentiment in the world and in the US SINCE 9-11-01 is very disturbing. Ever since 9-11 I've had this feeling that we're seeing the rebirth of another National Socialist revolution --on a global scale. So what if Jewish conservatives are supporting a war with Iraq? I'm willing to bet that there is a far larger number of Christian Conservatives who support the war, just as their is a far greater number of Christians who support Israel than their are Jews.
Well, this woman is way too smart to be an actual democrat...(Republicans have a tendancy to think people are honest observers)
I'll bet she could care less about anything and just uses the clueless (there are many) to make MONEY! (Atlas Shrugged kind of thing). Got to admit the bitch can coin a phrase or two. If so, politics has nothing to do with it. Shes bucking to be the Jerry Springer of the politically clueless. (to self- course the whole democratic party could fit that mold) Anyway, nobody could put together phrases the way she does and be clueless. So, I believe she believes the whole political thing is a joke. Voila!, tongue in cheek gaff's that appear to be serious, but she could really care less. Her intellect is geared toward giving the clueless a cliche' which is good enough for them, cause they really don't care about America anyway. (voices)What about Micheal Kelly then!?... Well, Micheal Kelly, really is stupid..next...
me-Back to Maureen....(voice) What about Phil Donahue ?.... me- DUH!---(stop it)....(voice) Well, what about..
This ain't workin,,,sorry..
Could you please give me more information (links, references?) on the anti-Catholic statements by the DNC?

And a universe of pro-war moderates and liberals. The NY Times when on a road trip last week down I-80 trying to find Americans to speak out against the war. By and large, the found unanimity on the issue that "something has to be done" about Saddam.
This included persons willing to admit that 1) the economy is tanking and should be addressed by the Prezz; 2) pre-emption sets a bad precedent and is bad for US image & values; 3) the war is politically timed; 4) previous American foreign policy contributed to the problem; 5) W is not very smart and has not articulated the case for war to their satisfaction, etc, etc, etc.
The Times concluded that the 9/11 attacks changed American thinking on the Middle East, making American safe from terrorists the issue.
Well duhh!
Deserves a bump.
This German says much the same thing. A good read on the affinities between racists, the left, and Hussein.
On July 31, Catholic League president William Donohue wrote to DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe imploring him to act quickly and decisively by removing Catholics for a Free Choice from the DNCs links of interest organizations. On August 6, Donohue wrote to every Democrat in the House and Senate asking for assistance in this matter. But nothing has changed. Thus, the need for a formal campaign.
We are asking all Catholics to contact the DNC and make known their outrage over the DNC-CFFC link. Frances Kissling, who heads CFFC, has said that it is her goal to overthrow the Catholic Church. She has also lobbied the U.N. to kick the Holy See out of the world organization. No wonder she has twice been denounced as a fraud by the U.S. bishops. And this is the kind of Catholic that the DNC wants to associate with?"
Having read your previous post, I am very surprised by this one.
You are totally wrong.
The Jewish communiy would never approve actions by a Jew acting in official capacity that are contrary to his duties. Any Jew in the government, as well as Gentile, is supposed to promote, to full extent of his capacity, the interest of the United States.
What you have said, whether deliberately or inadvertently, is a libel that anti-Semites like Dows promulgate.
You should take your words back, because they have defamed a large number of people.
For them not to try to speak up and influence policy could be considered criminal negligence on the part of the Jewish community. However, where Dowd is altogether wrong is to fail to point out that the Jewish pro-war lobby exists within a much larger universe of pro-war conservatives.---------Having read your previous post, I am very surprised by this one.

What an absolute misreading of everything I stand for.
I was pointing out, rightly, that Jews have learned the lesson of the Twentieth Century. I would argue that they have learned it a whole lot better than have Gentiles. There aren't too many self-hating Jews writing bitter criticisms of Israel and Zionism in the editorial pages of The Guardian, now are there? Nope. Most of them are Gentiles, like Robert Fisk, John Pilger, or Polly Toynbee.
If there is a Jew in power, and he sees the likes of a Saddam Hussein coming at him, it would be well nigh criminal for him not to speak up. When Jews did not speak up; when Jews did not resist, the result was a railhead in Poland that the Germans called Auschwitz. I have no problem with a Jew remembering what became of his people in the Twentieth Century to apply those lessons to the crises of the Twenty-First. That is no libel; that is a Jew applying the lessons of a painful past to protect the larger society from evil.
Just because a Jew says that it is a good thing to protect Israel does not mean that it is wrong for him to say it, simply because he is Jewish. It does mean that he values Israel as an ally, as a Democracy, and as a homeland for the Jewish people. It does not follow that he is arguing for the security of Israel at the expense of his own nation.
I will leave it to the likes of Dowd to peddle the polite anti-Semitism of the chattering classes. Such thinking is not for me.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
What did she say that was anti-semitic?
Saying that Frances Quisling "heads CFFC" is wrong; she and a small staff are CFFC. Since she used to work at an abortion mill, she's long ago an excommunicate Catholic.
