Most likely she got him to the hospital way before a 911 call would have brought paramedics to him, and then he still would have had to be transported to the hospital. I wonder if one of the shots was meant for the mother, and the boy fell into the line of fire.

It would have been better to transport him by helicopter right from the scene. I feel so sorry for that mother, as she was forced to witness this and probably reacted in a state of panic. Although this will probably turn out to be related to the previous attacks, in Prince Georges County there is always the possibility that this was thug-related, even for a 13-year-old. I don't agree. In the suburbs, ambulance response times are like 2-3 minutes. The ambulance crew can provide all kinds of supportive measures to stem the bleeding, keep his blood pressure up, etc. In addition, the ER staff will know exactly what they have coming & will be immediately ready for it.

By driving him herself, she probably cost him 5-10 minutes of effective treatment time.
