I have killed rabits at that range, but it would be doubtful that you could kill a person at that range with 22lr

It is certainly feasible..

But the projectile would have relatively low mass and be traveling at less than 1000 FPS.

It could kill by damage to a vital organ, but certainly wouldn't produce the kind of wound being described. (coffee cup sized)

Certain 'agencies' have been dispatched to help, and are at other schools. the man on the radio said 'I don't want to say which these agencies are'.

Probably feds/ state police, etc. connecting the dots. I would imagine Homeland Security is in on it by now.

I agree, they only shoot flat for about 75 yards, and that's from a rifle and definatly no a pistol.

It sure is, a .223 round is quite potent out to 300 yards, beyond that it's losing alot of it's energy but will still inflict good amounts of damage. If this guy is good, he could be as far out as 400 to 500 yards, though it's unlikely unless he found high enough ground to shoot over cars in the parking lot's of these stores. Two shots on one target from that distance is a very tough feat as well.

That's kind of my point. I am a very good shot with a 22 rifle and can easily hit a ribit sized target at that distance, but I wouldn't want to try to bring down something big at 1000 FPS and a low mass bullet.

It could mean he lives with the aunt, or just that the aunt was in charge of the child this morning. Interesting report that the child was kicked off his bus this morning after some dispute.
