I'm keeping him home tomorrow. It's a public school and I will be letting them have it at the PTA on Wed.
DH is at work right now literally 5 minutes from this school off MD 197. He normally eats his lunch outside at a picnic area off the side of his building. I called and said you aren't even thinking of...and he cut me off " no dear- I'm eating at my desk".
I have a sister and family ALL over PG ( where I grew up) and Montgomery County. I know these areas and streets like the back of my hand. My sister who works on Conn. Ave in Silver Spring hasn't left her house in days. My parents live in Western MD wanted her to come stay with them...but she is staying put in her house. Won't go outside. The fear level is devastating.

I can't believe in the Master Criminal scenarios. If this guy was smart, he wouldn't be doing this.
If the range has gone to 200 yards you might be correct but I can't see it.
What makes a person a good shot isn't when things are going right. It's when they're going wrong. A good shot can buy a bad firearm and know what to do to make it right. A bad shot can be lucky enough that the firearm is sighted in with the scope and it's that much easier.
Since he's only taking one shot, he's not reacting to multiple targets at different ranges.
At the most difficult, he's may be using a pistol and a scope that may only be a 4 power. If he's shooting at 100 yards, it's like a person shooting at 25 yards from a supported position at man-sized targets. That's not difficult and it doesn't make it part of a terrorist group.

My sister who works on Conn. Ave in Silver Spring hasn't left her house in days. My parents live in Western MD wanted her to come stay with them...but she is staying put in her house. Won't go outside. The fear level is devastating. I am NOT saying that I wouldn't do the VERY SAME THING.....I need to preface my statement with that. I've got a small one here, too, and I'd do whatever necessary to protect him. That said, whoever's doing the terrorizing has now won, hasn't he?
I have NO ANSWERS other than some good old fashioned Texas type patrolling of these areas, big time....and of course, always and forever, prayer.

...and to keep people talking about it all day.

You did not see me call it the OFFICE of Homeland Security. I said Homeland Security which issued that ridiculous crayola chart is garbage and useless since there is an obvious terror attack going on and it is staying on its stagnant state of alert.
Meanwhile, the nation is put on higher alert for weeks based on some Al Qaeda info given from some trained liar and nothing happens. Then something happens and that we were warned about as a possible scenario to happen in a terror attack and they do all they can to deny it and try and blame or have innuendo towards some gun/army/wacko nut.
Until the McVeigh and Iraq connection is officially linked by our government. Padilia and Al Qaeda and Iraq.TWA 800 and Egypt Air as a true terror attack as well...our government will continue to cover up and lie to us about what is a terror attack and what isn't a terror attack. I am sick of it. Ask the flight on Long Island that blew up...wings falling off, witnesses to the scene....blah blah blah. Get rid of the color chart.

I have been saying that for months....unless we see another plane hitting a building .....our government will never admit to another terror attack in this country again......sheeple got to scared wouldn't go to the mall..

My daughter lives in Montgomery county. My son,in the Army, called her and told her to duck, drop and roll. He was only kidding but I personally think it is a great idea. Won't work with only one shot. The bullet is there before the sound. "You never hear the bullet that gets you. It is one of the few blessings of war"

My friend, we are on the same wave length.

One more nail in the coffin for KKT. "When the shooting spree was going on, what did you do as Lt. Governor to calm the fears of the people?" The answer: Nothing. Buh-bye, thank you for playing. :) I'm a bit calmer now after taking a shower, which I know has some hidden meaning here on FR but I know not what.
Being a Merryland resident and frequenting that area often, a whole range of emotions and concerns are coarsing through me.
First, the political angle. Earlich is not out talking about these shootings nor should KKT be doing anything. As for Governor Spendenning, heck most thinking Merrylanders don't like the guy and his $5,000 dog houses. Still, the Governor is the Governor and there's something to be said for knowing that your leader is concerned.
Then again, maybe it's NOT the time for the Governor to make an appearance. Though I'm betting dollar to doughnut that time will come soon enough. So far the citizens of Merryland have been pretty cool about all of this. Comes from living a life so close to DC and knowing that should the country get attacked, Merryland goes down as well.
Soon, however, there will be ramifications from this. Soon, the citizens of Merryland are going to react and react in mass. If this shooting today doesn't do it, even after the police told us that school children were safe, the next one will. Soon Merrylanders will STOP going to malls, will REFUSE to send their children to school. Soon, the citizens will outright refuse to be sitting ducks for a target shooter. THEN we'll see the Governor (and it SHOULD be the Governor....not the LT. Governor which would only be a campaign ploy as I'd view it). And when we see this terrible, awful human being of a Governor trying to reassure us, maybe Merryland will realize, just as the whole country did in the case of Clinton, that this guy is NO leader.

"He also seems to be picking places with or near parking lots--the only exception is the man mowing the lawn, but I don't know if there was a parking lot nearby. It'd be a place to sit and scope the place before the shootings, even long before the shootings."
Wasn't that guy mowing a strip of grass in front of a car dealership? Very much like a parking lot.

From what I've read from the sentence that Fellow Traveler wrote about the "bite", I'm positive that he was writing about the recoil. You may be right, I guess I'm too quick to jump to conclusions.

Have you heard anything about another shooting this afternoon yet?
To: Dog Gone
That is different from the pattern of previous shootings. It also seems to have been in error. Later stories only indicate one shot. Doctors recovered the bullet, or enough of it, to ID as .223.

No Problem.

Have you heard anything about another shooting this afternoon yet? If you're talking about the guy off the Anacostia River who was shot while sitting in a car, the authorities say that was an unrelated robbery.
To: aristeides
Thanks Lucianne was running a header earlier saying that the police were keeping it quiet and that the guy shot in his car may have been related to the sniper.
Maybe they don't want a circus down there..

WMAL Reporter: police at Bowie found a patch of grass matted down from which they surmise the shooter fired. So he was out of a vehicle at least while shooting.

It is believed the 13-year-old boy was shot once in the upper body. Clark says the child may have been walking toward the school. Fire department spokesman Mark Brady says the boy was wounded in the chest and abdomen
The nature of the interior ballistics of the .223 make these two statements not contradictory. The entry wound could be in the chest, with one of the (usually) two large fragments doing damage in the abdomen, or vice versa.
