I was just trying to offer lobbyist some potential comfort. I think it would be better for people to try and protect themselves from getting shot, than to go around, fully armed, and shooting at everyone else that is armed and scared. If a random, long distance shooter wants to kill you, he will.

the bay bridge yes, but the chesapeake bridge tunnel connects the southern tip of the delmarva pennisula (the virgina part) to the norfolk area, at least a couple of hours away from bowie (driving real fast)

School gets out in 90 minutes..they said tons of police will be out at all the schools..well if I was this shooter I would strike somewhere else at this time knowing that most of the police are at the schools

not very effective? The whole point of terrorism is to terrorize..this looks VERY effective to me..people afraid to do normal activities such as getting gas and going to the mall, and now scared about their kids at school

Who is afraid? A couple counties in Maryland, viewers of MSNBC, CNN and Fox, and FReepers. That's it.

If you aren't watching one of the all-news networks, or surfing a news site on the web, you won't know this is happening. I've been watching all the other networks and they haven't carried it.

I told my husband about it quite a while ago and he just kind of looked at me. Guess you could say I'm the tinfoil hat wearer in the family. Hubby is not and it makes for very interesting conversations.

Same situation here. My husband doesn't buy it, but he hasn't been paying much attention. I don't see how anyone who has read much of the information that's come out by that OKC reporter can ever think otherwise.

I find it odd that the public officials in Maryland who hate guns are proving to the public that they cannot protect them and they cannot even catch these people.

It's ironic, certainly, but the word "odd" implies some degree of complicity between the gunman and cops, which I do not believe.

The same for myself. My concern is that there are a lot of people that own weapons and are very accurate with them on the range, but would not react correctly in some situations, and possibly cause more harm than good.

We're just not be told anything...but somewhere there is a guy acting a little bit differently and likely breaking a pattern. A perceptive neighbor/friend/employer might be the best lead.

Several people on this thread, including me, think this is possibly terrorism from Islamic extremists, although it's all just speculation at this point.

I'm sure this issue has been addressed, but I don't have time to look through the whole thread (sorry!) so I figured I'd ask:

*IF* this is Islamoterrorism (which I think is a strong possibility), why has no one claimed responsibility yet? It seems that the M.O. for those groups is to make headlines and quickly say "Yep, I done it!." But we're a week into this, the whole area is in a panic, but no claims yet...it doesn't seem to fit the pattern.

Any thoughts appreciated...

The same .224 bullet that's used in the .223 Remington or 5.56 is used in seven different cartridges. If the bullet has a Cannelure which is a groove cut around the circumferance of the bullet, it would be a safe bet that it's a .223 Remington because Cannelures are used to grip the bullet in Semi-autos.

If there's enough groove markings to identify the particular twist of the barrel it would only narrow the field down but still not answer the question of which rifle was used.
