Lot of information there that I didn't need.

You and I both know the type of person the media is describing when they use the words "white racist militia-type". The type exists, and we both probably have the same image in our heads when we hear them say it. So don't pretend the argument is about the definitions. He exists true to stereotype, and he pops up on our own freaky fringe once in a while. (He now doesn't appear to have anything to do with this case, so we are now speaking in a rhetorical sense)

My argument up there at 30 should have been that we need to loudly disown those like him, not feel collectively worried about one of him getting caught and making us look bad. Because he is just simply not us.

Better?

Furthermore, what in hell is a "high intensity" bullet? Is that like a high intensity lightbulb?

No, it's more like "Special High Intensity Training" - as in, that received by media "experts" before they shoot off their "expertise" in articles like this...

NOT A SUSPECT per Chief Moose, live on Geraldo just now. See the live thread.

Oh, no... Not our "Beloved" Chief Moose, formerly from Portland?

Naah, couldn't be him... He'd never be able to pronounce "Suspect" intelligibly

Call me naive, but I change minds when I talk to moms in tennis shoes...

Hey... Even a psychotic redneck jew thug like ME can change minds.

When I run across a leftie-liberal feminazi gungrabber, I just tell her, "Yeah, I agree with you. I don't think women should be armed. That might cause a problem for me and my friends if we catch some chippy out alone at night some time and decide to have some fun with her".

Ya oughta see 'em flip-flop on their carefully thought out (NOT!!) position... faster than a Demoncrat at a press conference right after a Zogby poll...

Muttly want high-intensity bullets.
Can Muttly have high-intensity bullets ?
So it's boiled down to someone who may have a gun, and know how to use it. I feel much safer now.

You don't *look* any safer, Muttly.

And no, you can't have any high-intensity bull***ts. I'm keeping them all for myself. There are leftie-lieberal reporters creeping around out there...

Well...considering you are in beautiful/hellish Oregon...you get to keep the bullets.

Muttly has a few high-powered rifles. No matter what he loads in them...they come out "high-powered," they say.

Same for his pistols. Being in New York metro area...they come out "cop-killers"....unless my police friends load the same thing...in which case....they're just insensitive.

Muttly doesn't want sensitive ammunition. Muttly sensitive enough already...and it has caused him nothing but pain. Now quietly intolerant...and much happier.

Just because they may be out to get ya' doesn't mean you are not paranoid!

It takes salesmanship to change views. We (gun owners) have a sellable position, and victimhood ain't it. Call me naive, but I change minds when I talk to moms in tennis shoes... I talk about their vulnerability and their protection. And I am a normal looking chick who doesn't blame them for having fear or preconceptions about guns. I take them shooting, and they end the day on my side. I have done that many times over.

Excellent. This is a very good technique that works well. If have often used it myself. I have taught many hundreds of people to use guns safely (professonaly) about 1/5 of them women. I applaud your efforts. This is one way that we can change minds. As you have found, my experience is that once they have been to the range and actually fired a firearm, their whole attitude changes.

I don't think being hyper-sentive if this guy might be a right wing militia dude will win any votes to our side. If you think the media is selling a bogus image of us and them being the same thing, then work to dispel it, is all I am saying.

Your attitude here shows how much influence the media has already had. What is a "right wing militia dude?" You do realize that "right wing militia dudes" are far more law abiding than most of the rest of the country, don't you?" Timothy McVeigh and Nicholes were not "right wing militia dudes". They were kicked out of militia meetings they attended.

Remember that the OldDominantLiberalMedia created the "right wing militia dude" image, with a lot of help from the racists at the Southern Poverty Law Center during the Clinton administration. It is also much easier for you to say that we should not "look like this stereotype" when you are not male. I think it is very healthy for white males to call the media on this.

15 years ago, the OldDominantLiberalMedia kept saying that the 2nd amendment only applied to the militia. In response, a number of local groups started organizing militia. Within a very short time the media response changed. Now it was not militia that had the right to keep and bear arms, it was "the state government".

I have been part of a considerable effort to educate reporters about firearms. A pattern quickly developes. A reporter is anti gun, based mostly on ignorance. With quite a bit of effort , the reporter is educated, and becomes neutral or slightly pro freedom. The reporter then loses their job.

After this happens a few times, you realize that it is not simple ignorance at work. It is the OldDominantLiberalMedia that is vociferously anti freedoom and anti-gun. It is built into the philosphy of the people who own the OldDomiantLiberalMedia.

Take a look at how many people control 90 percent of the OldDominantLiberalMedia. Lets see... Washington Post, New York Times, LA Times, AP, Time Warner, Disney, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN. I haven't mentioned Fox because they are part of the new media. That is just 10 organizations, and even they are intertwined. So we only have 10 people who have to have essentially the same world view and the same interests, and voila! you get the same viewpoints on every television show and in most of the papers.

The owners pick the CEOs who pick the editors who pick the reporters. They are all chosen for the proper philosophy. If your philosophy changes, you are usually out, unless you have developed enough audience that you are valuable on your own (very, very rare). This is why I concentrate on shrinking the OldDominantLiberalMedia market share and on developing new media such as Freerepublic. That is where the future and our hope lies.

I know I can't do thing about the media, but I will continue to try to change the minds that are closer to me, like you are doing!

Those other comments of mine that acknowledge that we have a bad fringe element, I still hold to. We do have folk in our fringes that freak people out! - but there aren't very many. I do need to be clearly "not them" if I am to win hearts and minds that are in the middle... Need to take baby steps with them. Right to self-defense against an attacker in a parking lot first. Disdain for any and all government doesn't help me in that fight.

Oh, damn. Oh, DAMN...

You're right... Now we've got an even bigger problem - the ammunition is sensitive, or insensitive, or "high-intensity", or "low-intensity" (?) depending on in what gun it's loaded in and by whom it was fired.

What to do... How will we know (without the help of a newspaper reporter to tell us, of course) how sensitive or intense our ammunition is?

Now I'm going to have to write some software to absorb all the necessary parameters for each of my guns and all ammo and all the combinations thereof, so I'll know how sensitive and intense the bullet is when it takes off in the direction of Dan Rather.

< < scratch... ponder... > >

Damn you, Muttly... Now look what you've done to me. I was better off living in darkness and ignorance. < < sigh... > >

oh well...

The Light has come to Oregon.

Now, to put the dreaded icing complication on this reinvented, socially-engineered cake...in Mass., if you get into a "physical altercation" with someone...and happen to be wearing shoes at the time...there is an additional charge of assault "with a shod foot." This may or may not apply...but it's best to consider before designing the software. Gender should also be considered...as well as any potential reparations settlements due in the future. Points may be given...credits...to those who practice non-traditional, questionable, or unhealthy lifestyles, and/or opinions, as long as they are clearly liberal democrat in nature. Republicans are by nature not in any valid minority, so no matter what gender or ethnic background, must not be issued credits. Conservatives start with 15 negative credits for even being wherever they happened to have been, when the incident occurred. The municipality also reserves the right to declare an "open and shut" case, in order to redistribute the trial money saved, to unrelated members of the victim's category. It's for the children.

Nice response, thank you.

You are doing the right thing, and I do applaud your efforts. They are so much more than most do. You can do something about the media, however. You are doing it already. Read Freerepublic and be skepitcal of everything you read and hear. A skeptic is 90 percent on the way determining truth. You might consider stopping watching TV. If you try it for even a week or two, I guarantee that you well be amazed at how your attitude changes! I recommend to all my freinds that they not support their local media, if it is of a liberal bent. Why fund the hand that beats you? All of these things are done rather easily.

As you are obviously a thoughtful and proactive person, I'd like to know what you think of these actions and their possibility. I also wonder what I wrote that "overwhelmed" you. Was this good or bad? Did it alter any of your attitudes or opinions?

Just looking for some feedback.

Good Morning...

Been another one of these damn shootings now this morning. What the hell is going on?

Just briefly, the overwhelming part was the part where you laid out the organization of an actual plan by leadership of the media to remain left. and that if reporters went to much to the other side they were fired. Overwhelming because conspiracy theories like that are too hard for me to get my head around. I happen to believe the left slant to the media has more to do with liberals more often wanting to do that kind of work. Republicans aren't going to journalism school... That the slant is much more accidental based on the type of people usually interested in the work.

Hell I don't know. That just seems more true to the way people I know act.

Probably see ya 'round on gun threads... I always lurk on them, sometimes I stick my foot in!

The weather guy on Fox & Friends asked Chief Moose about this and Moose said he had his facts wrong, although Moose was vague on details as to why the facts were wrong. I understood Moose to imply that a white supremicst had been arrested on a warrant from Florida.

From another thread: The man was picked up over the weekend, and is no longer a suspect, or even a "person of interest." He had returned his rifle to the dealer he bought it from (before the shootings, I believe), and no weapons were found in his possession. He is being held on a car theft charge from Florida. He was reported missing by his family on Monday, well before the shootings took place.

This was a case of the Maryland police grasping at straws for the perfect suspect: a white supremicist.

Does it sound like my book's plot? HECK YES!

For any freepers who don't know, I am writing a novel (which is 99% finished) about the federal government's assault on the 2nd amendment which follows a scenario which could be put into action at almost any time in this era of the "Patriot Act". I think my novel will be more accessible than John Ross' fine novel "Unintended Consequences", (certainly it will be shorter, at under 400 pages, and it will not be gratuitously, needlessly sexual).

The novel starts in Washington FedEx stadium when bullets begin to fly into an upper deck, which causes a panic stampede for the exits. The bullets continue to hit spectators, all this is on television of course since it is an NFL game, this adds to the panic. The crush of people high in the stadium fleeing down to the ramps causes the spectators near the upper deck rails to be pushed right over the edge to drop to the lower decks, all filmed on television by a dozen cameras. More people die in jams in the narrow ramps and exits; the total death count is over 1000. Dozens of U.S. Senators and Congressmen are eye witnesses. That is how the novel opens.

The shooter is found and killed 1200 yards outside of the stadium by a SWAT sniper in a police helicopter, a semi automatic so-called "assault rifle" at his side. He turns out to be an unemployed Desert Storm vet with a history of mental and physical problems attributed to "Gulf War Syndrome". This scrawny loser is soon connected to a group of hunters and shooters in southeastern Virginia ("Tidewater"). Jihad literature is found near his body in Arabic taking credit for the massacre in the name of an Islamic terrorist group. The "obvious" intent of the shooter was to blame Arab American Muslims for the massacre, but "luckily he was killed and the evil plan revealed". That is what the media and the sheeple believe. They are led to believe the shooting was actually planned and carried out by white yahoo rednecks from Virginia, trying to stir up hatred and armed reaction against Muslims in America. The motive is "obvious", all the evidence points to that conclusion. In fact, the shooter is a patsy dredged out of a VA hospital by the actual conspirators.

The massacre is predictably blamed on the easy access to high capacity "assault rifles", even by lunatics fresh out of the loony bin. On Monday following the stadium massacre both houses of Congress pass an emergency bill in record time outlawing the private possession of all centerfire semi-auto rifles, with a one-week turn in period and no buy-back. The few pro 2nd Amendment congressmen willing to speak are shouted into silence, the bill is passed and signed by the president, public opinion polls show overwhelming support for it.

The next Friday night there is a "gun store kristallnacht" in SE Virginia as "mobs of outraged citizens" in the dead patsy's home town torch them with gasoline bombs. The mobs are actually gang bangers on parole recruited by the actual organizers of the stadium massacre, who are two deranged and power mad BATF officials. They hope by creating a massacre blamed on easy access to high capacity "assault rifles" to become the leaders of a new anti-gun federal law enforcement division with sweeping powers and unlimited funding.

A decorated Viet Nam Green Beret officer is killed with a bomb secretly placed in his car, then it is leaked to the media that he was on his way to blow up a federal building when "his bomb went off prematurely". Other "false flag" black operations of this sort lead to a public climate of fear and hysteria over "right wing militia terrorism". The aim of the plotters is to have the president secretly authorize the creation of a special covert federal unit which will be permitted to act outside the constitution to pro-actively terminate "suspected terrorists" using Phoenix Program death squad tactics on American soil during "the emergency". Since federal SWAT teams are already made up to a great extent by former Army Rangers, Navy SEALs and others used to fighting terrorism overseas by "any means necessary", it is no problem putting together a secret domestic anti-terrorism unit which will combat our own "right wing terrorists" by the same extra-legal methods.

That is just the beginning, but as you can imagine, the plot does not exactly go according to plan. A new division of the BATF is secretly named the "lead agency" in the repression of "gun nuts and militia fanatics", when actually it was a rogue BATF senior official who orchestrated the stadium massacre in order to increase his power and his budget in the predictable reaction to the "right wing militia massacre and bombings". In fact, this official had conveniently already written contingency plans for this type of new counter terrorism unit, and is (as he planned) named the first chief of the new covert unit.

Anyway, the situation evolves into a sub rosa "dirty war" of secret arrests, covert "interrogation centers", "disappearances", assassinations and counter assassinations, with the JBTs using the latest technology, and the other side using scoped deer rifles one shot at a time against anti Bill of Rights politicians. A computer hacker posts the addresses of all FBI and BATF agents in Maryland and Virginia and puts the feds on the defensive as amateur snipers take potshots at "targets of opportunity".

Running throughout the book is the race to solve the mystery of the stadium shooter: was he truly, as reported, a deranged former Marine, or just a hapless patsy? Did he even fire a shot? If he is a patsy, who put him there with the rifle and why?

Needless to say, ABCNNBCBS has one opinion (the anti gun govt. line) while the internet forums are a hotbed of opposing theories. Coservative websites plays a major role in revealing the details of the plot, the truth and the outcome is left up in the air until the very end, as some of the targeted "right wing gun nuts" take the dirty war back to the secret government death squad unit. The full truth about the stadium massacre and aftermath is readied for airing on one new major news network, while the secret government death squad races to stop the story from airing by all the means at its disposal, including bombings and assassinations.

The background of my plot is that if the JBTs (Jack Booted Thugs, federal SWAT teams) cannot find actual "right wing militia terrorists", it may prove very tempting to some in the "anti terrorism industry" to create them. It would really be simple to do: it would only take a few arranged massacres blamed on "right wing gun nuts" to create the proper atmosphere of hysteria. The FBI's budget grew from 2 to 4 billion dollars per year during the 1990s in the "war on terrorism", and this was before 9-11. You can only imagine the kind of money being directed against terrorism now, and the temptation that kind of money might provide to the unscrupulous who will direct and control that cash flow, and the federal law enforcement promotions which will be handed out as new departments are created and manpower rolls swell with new recruits.

But almost all of the new funding is going to the FBI in its battle against foreign born islamic terrorists. The BATF is again being left on the sidelines.... until in my novel an evil high ranking BATF official figures out a way to jump start a "war on right wing domestic terrorism" with his bogus stadium massacre, a massacre blamed on too easy access to "assault rifles". This puts the BATF center stage, and directs the money flow to this rogue BATF official, as he had planned.

The book is 99% finished, I just have to start typing a smooth copy, get it proofed and then print it.

Kind of amusing, really. I came up with the hypothesis of a concentration of power in the hands of people with simular backgrounds and interests to explain the phenomena that I was seeing without a conspiracy!

The point that I was trying to make, was that no conspiracy is required because the OldDominantLiberalMedia is so concentrated, that only a few people at the top need to have essentially the same philosophy and interests for the entire culture of the OldDominantLiberalMedia to develope its own, self regulating system that systematicly works for a leftist agenda.

I see this as more of a culturization process than anything else. There is of course, selection of people who have the right views in the first place. Then there are all sorts of cultural pressures to develope and show the "correct views" or be ostracized, including having your carreer sidelined. "Bias" talks about this. I had one close friend who told me, after he got out of reporting (he had worked his way up to a major market, Minneapolis) that he just got tired of having corruption stories about Repulicans make front page, and corruption stories about Democrats being spiked. He could not take it any more, and got out.

Finally, for those who won't take the hint, their contract is just not renewed.

Hell I don't know. That just seems more true to the way people I know act.

He!!, I don't know either. This is just a working hypothesis that best explains this part of the Universe as I have observed it. Does this still seem like a conspiracy theory to you? I am pretty sure that the top few people in the business socialize together and have common interests. Even at the top, it is likely that people become culturated. I think of Ted Turner. Quite a few years ago, he seemed pretty conservative. Then after he married Jane and became part of the larger Media Culture, he moved more and more to the left, so much so, that CNN became known as the Clinton News Network on Freerepublic.

It always makes sense for me to bounce my views off of someone who has a different mind set who can think. If you don't have time to correspond on this, just say so. I will not be offended.
