Another broad-daylight shooting just occurred, this time in Fredericksburg, VA, just off I-95. It's not even on the news yet.
About an hour's drive south of where the Montgomery County shootings happened, a woman was shot in the parking lot of a Michaels fabric store. My wife was in the store at the time. The victim had left the store and carried her purchases to her minivan. She unlocked the minivan and was loading her stuff into it when she was shot. No sign of the shooter.
No one else was injured.
The woman was taken away in an ambulance, condition unknown. Her license plate (which I'm not going to post) indicated that she had several children.
I think his "profile" of a couple of young, mutually supportive, immature boys is complete hogwash. I think this is one guy with a heavy barrel AR-15 and some previous military training.(not necessarily the US military)
I think September 11 has taught AQ a serious lesson. They had 3 attacks plan (apparently) and were unable to carry out the second 2 as a result of the 'round-up' done of suspects afterwards. I would not put it past the AQ to send out a couple of nuts on a rampage like this and only reveal their action aftewards. Otherwise it would prompt another round up making it harder for them to operate.
Or it could be a couple of thrill seekers whacked out on some schizoid mission.
We are talking about an Isuzu here...
I've also heard it was designed to wound, but that conflicts with the "devistating" tumbling characteristics it had when under rifled. (1:12 in the original, now usually between 1:9 or 1:7, so that effect is gone)
It was also designed for it's light weight, flat trajectory, and lack of recoil. Most of this was our military switching to full auto assult rifle from the .30 cal battle rifles (M1, M14). Basically, easier to shoot full auto, and you can cary more ammo for spray and pray. It was a McNamara thing, so who knows what the decisions were based on.
I love my AR-15, but would much rather our guys had M-14s or AR-10s in combat.
One team sets up with a rem700 in 222, takes 5 or 6 targets (we don't even know how many failed shots went unnoticed). Then they mosey on back to their suburban "good muslim" cover, and the news media provides the signal for the next group to begin on the next day, looking like a moving perp.
Va. Shooting 'Similar' To Maryland Shooting Spree
Investigators Still Searching For White TruckPOSTED: 8:11 a.m. EDT October 4, 2002
UPDATED: 4:50 p.m. EDT October 4, 2002ROCKVILLE, Md. -- A woman was shot outside a store near Fredericksburg, Va., Friday afternoon, in an incident with similarities to the shootings in Montgomery County, Md.
Spotsylvania County police say the woman was loading packages into her car about 2:30 p.m. at a Michaels crafts store outside Spotsylvania Mall when she was shot in the back. There was no official word on her condition, but witnesses say she was breathing and speaking.
The shot apparently was fired from a distance. The first incident in the Maryland shooting spree was a shot fired through the window of a Michaels store.
Police are not saying there's a connection between Friday afternoon's incident and the Maryland shootings. They say it's too soon to draw any conclusions.
However, Montgomery County police chief Charles Moose says he will send his investigators to Virginia to see if there is a connection to the shootings in his county.
