This might get interesting

Right-wing highly partisan "states rights" attorney general attempts to influence/interfere with judicial/election process even though it is clearly a state matter. That'll be the spin.

Yes, but Ashcroft need to be real careful here. The media will pick this up as Bush Adm interfering with state politics and "playing party politics". Frankly, I could careless what the media or Dems think though. But I'm not a NJ voter. They broke the law and someone needs to call them on it. If the US Supreme Ct doesn't do anything then Forrester is on his own and needs to beat the old geezer on his liberal issues.

Considering it took the dems so damn long to vote in Ashcroft and very shortly after that 9-11 occured, I'll give him a pass on looking into many problems. Not to make excuses for him but facts are facts, going after terrorist cells in this country really is more important.

The NJSC had a goal--that of making it a top priority to keep a Democrat in Torch's seat. They showed total disregard for state and federal laws in that pursuit. They will not be remembered kindly and the sleazy Democrats who put them up to it will not, either.

As long as we win, let 'em spin.

Actually, it will be hard for them to spin it that way since he's asking specifically about federal election law as it applies to overseas/military ballots. As long as his questions are on a federal level, he's safe (well sortof).

Right, and we should have an Attorney General who just ignores federal law if it will help democrats? Think how irresponsible and cowardly it would be for the U.S. Attorney General to just ignore such an issue when it has been officially brought to his attention. By the way, best I can tell Ashcroft is a very sincere, professional, personally religious man who is taking the war on terrorism to heart. A perfect "villain" for the liberals.

Has anybody heard whether DOJ can do something to control fraud in Miami-Dade and Broward in November?

Hmm, maybe they ought to send in Jimmy Carter as an observer.

What this NJSC decision in favor of the Dimocrats and the Florida SC decisions in favor of Gore highlight for any objective observer is that the Courts in the United States have been co-opted by the left.

I hope the voters in NJ will be flat out disgusted with this decision and refuse to take part in the obvious, blatent scam.

Wishful thinking I know.

Time for the Reps to stop worrying about spin. The Dems didn't worry about it when they started this attempt to cheat there way to a win. Ashcroft has framed this as the federal issue that it is, at least with respect to military and other absentee ballots.

If NJ does not count the ballots that have already been sent in, they will have effectively disenfranchised those voters--i.e., requiring voters to submit a new ballot would have a "chilling effect" on their right to vote.

Ashcroft's involvement will do nothing more than motivate the dem voters....this year's Gingrich. He is an easily 'villainized' person.

You are exactly right. Not a shrewd move.

But the Dems are disenfranchising military personnel who are currently defending our country against al-Qaida and Iraq.

You think there was a stink with the ballot disqualification in 2000, it's even bigger with troops on the front lines, fighting and in some cases DYING. The Dems do NOT want to go there. As long as it's on the military ballots, the Dems CANNOT start anything.

Because it's a small leap from "disenfranchising military voters" to "this is part and parcel of the Democratic agenda that does not support our troops."

The Dems are NOT acting in a vacuum.

But what can Ashcroft do? It's a state court.

The issue of the military ballots is a win-win for us. Let the media and the liberals scream. We win this issue hands down, and it finesses beautifully with the Iraq debate.

Me thinks the Bush Administration is about to body slam the RATS on this issue.

Federal election law covers military and overseas ballots, the state has no right to change that, even though the NJSC tried yesterday.

And, while on the subject of AG Ashcroft, it is too bad he did not display this same enthusiasm for government corruption at the federal level....lynx fur and BIA scandals, Boston FBI office where the innocent are incarcerated and the guilty protected, Loral where the shareholders are fined and the guilty ignored, Chinagate......

You just will not get off this, will you?

Tiresome, tiresome, tiresome. Still obsessing with Clinton while some of us are trying to forget him.
