My wife is a history teacher and I can assure you that the current state of education means that a 16 year old would have very little knowledge about US history.

What is covered -- major dissident factions like labor and woman’s suffrage along with slavery are covered in detail and are highlighted. The Founding Fathers and most "heroes" are ignored.

If the kid comes from a left leaning home he may really believe this crap.

I do want to point out that my father was a card carrying communist and I turned out conservative so he can change but it takes years and years of thinking and studying.

Yeah i come from a very left leaning family too (not quite communist though). I used to have that Rage against the machine mentality when i was real young. I think the major turning point for me was when i turned 15 and saw my first paycheck and saw how much went to taxes. I started thinking more clearly from that point on.
