My memory may fail me, but I think Mrs. Harkin had something like $500,000 of the Conoco shares.

Harkin comes back to Iowa during campaigns and touts his Iowan roots. However, the truth is that he and his lobbyist wife live in a mansion in the Bahamas. Believe me, he NEVER talks about his radical support of abortion or his butt-kissin' support of the Clintonistas during impeachment! Most Iowans are clueless about national politics. He has scammed Iowans for years with his act. Sadly, the elderly here buy it cuz he spreads the "Republicans want to steal your S.S./Medicare" lie and because the teacher's unions here are so powerful.

The whole thing is really pathetic. I pray for a Ganske victory.

Hey, these are dems we are talking about - does it really matter whether Raphael is a man or a woman?

Either way, we know that he/she was working on the staff of a democratic congressmen...

And they say IA has about the best public schools in the nation!

A big lie. The reason Iowa school children score so well on standardized exams is due totally to demographics, NOTHING else. In cities that attract minorities and others seeking "services," the scores are nothing to brag about. If you look at the stats regarding student achievement and demographics, this fact becomes obvious. Demographics, not spending or politics, determines student achievement.

Watching the decline of the Democrats is like some surreal Shakespearean Play, except a lot easier to understand! The decline of liberalism will be best chronichled here on this forum, Man, what a great time to be alive!

common practice in the demo-rat party to pair 50-ish men with women in their early 20

The 21-year-old is named "Rafael," which is a guy (or a ninja turtle). Of course, both of them being guys puts me in mind of another common practice on that side of the aisle.

Let's consider the mighty morphing manure-smellin' story that Harkin has put out:

  1. My campaign had nothing to do with it.
  2. Oh, this clown used to be on my campaign? Well, no one currently on my campaign is involved. "I don't remember this guy."
  3. Oh, the reporter got the transcript from someone on my campaign? Well, we sure didn't do it, and if we did it, wasn't anything underhanded.
  4. Oh, we did prepare the transcript? Well, we're not really sure because we lawyered everybody up. "We have to protect them from the VRWC."
  5. Oh, it was one of my (deniably, expendably junior) staffers that put the guy up to his cut-rate Austin Powers act after all? Well, we'll fire the kid.
  6. You're still talkin' 'bout that? Can't we just move on?
On the plus side, given the Democrat predilection for distracting the proles from domestic diddling with some foreign fireworks, maybe Harkin will vote for the war resolution... insha'allah.

Sen. Harkin...

And on January 12, the independent counsel met with Linda Tripp and gave her immunity for her illegal taping of Ms. Lewinsky and yet never asked her not to pass on Paula Jones attorney the contacts of those -- the contents of those illegal tapes, which we now know that she did the very night before they deposed the president.

Harkin said he takes ultimate responsibility for the incident. "I apologize to my fellow Iowans for allowing this to happen," he said.

What's this mean? He takes "ultimate responsibility" but pays no cost? Just words . . .

Senator Harken is an old '60's type lib who has been in Iowa so long, he thinks he deserves the role of Senate gadfly. Ganske has a real outside chance to dethrone this liberal if Pubs will go to the polls. Bush only lost Iowa by a few thousand votes. I just e-mailed the Des Moines Register asking why Iowans keep sending this lunkhead back to the Senate. I also mentioned that Iowans do not seem to be the type of voters who like spies and corruption. Who knows? The public put up with the WH adulterer and crook so maybe Iowa will give Harken a pass. I pray not.

"You mean that if John Mitchell had resigned, Nixon wouldn't have had to
resign?"

Yup, you've got it! Harkin takes "full responsibility" so his manager "resigns." SURE!

What a crock!

After reading this thread all the way thru, I called the Ganske campaign office, I spoke with Mr. Armistadt, who is the campaign mgr. and asked about "Ralphie". Ralphie is male. He is the same staffer who has followed Ganske all over the state,, almost stalking. Ralphies job was to video tape the Ganske speeches.

This taping is a common tactic amongst Democrat campaigns. One candidate has taken to making a special introduction of his "stalker" at each campaign stop.

You guys missed the most important "fact" here......

Harkin said no crime was committed. He acknowledged, however, that the taping was done at the request of one of his staff members, Rafael Ruthchild, 21. Harkin said no one else on his staff knew about the request.

That is our que to say, "Oh, ok - as long as no funny business went on all is forgiven."

I left my home state when I was 19. And for the last 10 years, I have been trying to convince my Mom that Democrats are bent on destroying this country and it's way of life. I get a better response from a brick wall.

The good news is that the Rat party took Iowa by approx 5,000 votes in 2000.

They are not all beyond hope back there. I do pray.

And they say IA has about the best public schools in the nation!

A big lie.

Albuquerque, New Mexico's public school system drew its former superintendant from Iowa.

Brad Allison went nuts, was fired for a myriad of failings including drug and alcohol abuse, and wound up costing the system hundreds of thousands of dollars--just to get rid of him.

The dung piles are high and wide in Iowa.

Well consider that statement for a minute. Who says they are the best and by whose and what criteria? The governments?
