I had the good luck to meet with and lift a few cool ones, (he drank coke being Islamic) with an Iranian Lt who was attending communications officers school at Keesler AFB in '65.
Two years later I was stationed in North Texas at Perrin AFB. A delegation from Iran was slated to visit and I was asked to be part of the base party who would show the Iranian officers our facilities. There were six AF Colonels and me the 1st Looey. My counterpart was an Iranian Col. When the aircraft arrived and the delegation disembarked I was surprised to see my old buddy from Keesler. Our greeting was quite exuberant and startled my boss who was one of the Cols. We jumped in my staff car and took of for a whirlwind tour.
When I asked about his promotion he told me that based on his family's background, (they were major stockholders in Iranian Tel!) and his having attended Air Force Communications School at Keesler he had been promoted to Col and assigned to the General Staff of the Iranian AF.
Today's he's probably dead but his generation had learned and lived with Western ways and we hear the murmurings and rumblings of discontent. If we feed that desire the Mullahs will be mauled!
